Patient Care Technician - Surgical Telemetry

Job Title: Patient Care Technician Department: Surgical Telemetry Location: Unity Hospital Hours Per Week: Full Time 37.5 hours Schedule: Nights and every other weekend Summary As a Patient Care Technician, you will provide direct or indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans as determined/delegated by a licensed nurse. Your ability to assist with tasks necessary for the general management and organization of the patient care unit is crucial in the overall success of the unit and comfort of Rochester Regional patients. 3300 is a 19 bed, medical surgical unit that provides care to surgical patients, specializing and focusing on neurosurgery and thoracic surgery patients with laminectomies, spinal fusions, chest tubes, and more. As part of our interdisciplinary care team, you will often directly interact with surgeons, surgical Advanced Practice Providers, and Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses. The skills and knowledge gained on this unit could translate to a surgical nursing position, such as pre-an, OR, PACU, or a wound care/ostomy track. Our unit provides care to many medical patients, preparing our staff to work in any med-surg or critical care environment. Responsibilities Patient Care & Service - Provide direct patient care & indirect activities to facilitate unit functioning; provide safe and competent care for patients with relationship to nutritional, skin integrity, elimination & hygiene needs; take patient vital signs; ensure equipment and all facilities are clean and stocked with appropriate supplies. Admission & Transfer of Patients - Assist with admission, discharge and transfer of patients. Required Qualifications None. Preferred Qualifications Associates Degree preferred. Completion of one of the following is strongly preferred: Nursing Fundamentals, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification -OR- one (1) year experience as a medical assistant/technician in a health-related facility. Excellent customer service and communication skills preferred. Physical Requirements Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision‑making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements. For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
