Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

This position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery. Candidates must have completed at least one assignment in a facility of comparable size and acuity. The unit handles approximately 1800 deliveries per year. The average number of scheduled events daily is 4, including c-sections and versions. The unit consists of 2 triage rooms and 7 labor rooms, with additional pre-op/PACU in labor rooms. There are 25 beds designated for postpartum, antepartum, GYN, and mother-baby care. The unit supports a large geographical area with numerous referrals. Certification in specific neonatal care is essential. The unit is not currently Baby Friendly designated. Patients commonly present with diagnoses such as PIH, GDM, and others related to labor and delivery. The nursing ratios vary: 1:1-3 for cervical ripening and laboring phases and 1:1 for active labor. Postpartum couplets are typically assigned at a ratio of 3. Minimum staffing goal is 6 RNs for day and night shifts. Required certifications include RN: BLS, ACLS, NRP, with additional certifications as specified. Experience in charge roles may be beneficial. Support staff includes a unit secretary, bed flow facilitator, and a charge nurse available 24/7. An anesthesia provider and other specialized staff are on-call 24/7. Fetal monitoring occurs remotely at the bedside and nurses' station. Technology used in the unit includes EMR software and various critical care equipment. Nurses may float to other areas such as antepartum and postpartum as needed. Weekend rotations and holiday expectations apply. Scrub colors are navy, provided on site. Flexibility with scheduling is expected, including coverage during weekends and holidays.
