Key Responsibilities

• Provide pre- and post-operative nursing care for adult and pediatric patients in an inpatient and outpatient surgical setting
• Support a high-volume surgical unit with a 28-bed capacity and a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Care for patients undergoing a broad range of procedures including orthopedic surgeries (total knee, hip, and shoulder arthroplasty), ENT procedures, general surgery, and complex cases such as AAA repair and gastric bypass
• Document patient care accurately using the EPIC EMR system
• Participate in holiday coverage as required — contractors are expected to work 1–2 of the upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed

Required Qualifications

• Active Iowa RN license or active compact/multistate RN license at time of submission
• BLS certification from AHA (American Heart Association) or ARC (American Red Cross) — must be current and active
• Minimum of 12 months of pre/post-op or same-day surgery experience required
• Work history must reflect at least 24 months of current experience in surgery, pre/post-op, same-day surgery, or PACU
• At least one prior travel contract in pre/post-op, same-day surgery, or PACU within the previous 15 months required — first-time travelers will not be considered
• Current and recent pediatric care experience required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Experience must be from a hospital, medical center, same-day surgery center, or outpatient surgery facility
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Outpatient surgery experience as a pre-op or Phase II RN
• Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months
• Familiarity with a broad range of surgical case types including ENT, orthopedic, gynecologic, thoracic, and general surgery
