Most master techs wrenching on Audis and BMWs or other European vehicles right now are stuck picking between two things. The dealership grind that pays okay but slowly wears you down, or a nicer independent shop that's still parked in the same city, same traffic, same life you've been meaning to change for years. Nobody ever tells you there's a third option. There is.

I've been that guy. Master Guild Audi tech at the dealer, dealing with warranty admins who'd never turned a bolt in their life. I built our shops so techs wouldn't have to live that way. What took me longer to figure out is that the shop and the life outside it don't have to be two separate decisions. You can get both right at the same time. You clock out at 5 and Sunlight Mountain Resort is about 15 minutes away. Aspen is 45 minutes down the valley on CO-82 if you want a bigger night out or a bigger mountain. Vail is under an hour the other direction on I-70. And the shop runs Monday through Friday, full stop. Both days of your weekend belong to you, every single week.

Ride Scout Trail after work and shred some gnar on your way down. Spend Saturday on Red Hill, or head up to Rifle Mountain Park if climbing's more your speed. Chase pow at Sunlight all winter, fifteen minutes from the shop door. Then go sit in the hot springs pool downtown and let the water work out whatever the trail or the mountain didn't. That's a normal Tuesday for the guys already on our team out there.

If you've got a family, bring them. Glenwood Springs isn't a resort town built for tourists passing through. People actually raise kids here. The schools are solid, Valley View Hospital is right in town for anything your family needs, and the cost of living is a fraction of what you'd pay to live in Aspen or Vail while still getting to visit both whenever you want. Kids can ride bikes down to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park or the hot springs pool on a Saturday. There's a real Main Street, a farmers market, a summer festival every year, and enough space that your family isn't competing with a million other people for a hiking trail or a spot at the river. It's the kind of town where kids grow up outside instead of on a screen.
