School Counselor Position Position Type: Student Support Services/ Guidance Counselor Date Posted: 4/1/2026 Location: Centennial School District R-1 (High-Needs School) Job Summary As a School Counselor, you will play a vital role in promoting the academic, social, and emotional well‑being of our students. You will provide guidance and support to help them navigate challenges, develop essential life skills, and achieve their fullest potential. Qualifications Experience in providing counseling or related services to K-12 students (preferred). Master’s degree in school counseling or related field (required). Strong knowledge of counseling theories, student development, and best practices. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Professional/Ethical Responsibilities Confidentiality Cooperation and positive attitude Reliability/punctuality Accuracy and efficiency Timeliness in respect to deadlines Respectfulness toward others Responsibilities and Duties Support Students in developing Individualized Career and Academic Plans (ICAP). This includes: Academic Support: Assist students in developing academic goals, study skills, and educational plans (ICAP Plans). Provide guidance on course selection, career pathways, concurrent enrollment, work‑based learning opportunities, and college readiness. Collaborate with teachers and parents to address academic challenges and enhance student achievement. College and Career Counseling: Guide students through the college and career exploration process. Offer information on college applications, scholarships, and financial aid. Help students identify their interests, strengths, and career options, providing guidance on future pathways. This includes teaching the senior seminar course. Support students in developing both an e‑portfolio and a capstone project as part of their ICAP plan and senior seminar course. Personal and Social Development: Promote the development of students’ social and emotional skills. Provide counseling and guidance to address personal issues, emotional challenges, and social conflicts. Foster a positive school climate by promoting empathy, respect, and inclusivity. Individual and Group Counseling (Tier 1 and 2): Conduct individual counseling sessions to address specific student needs such as stress, anxiety, behavior issues, or academic concerns. Lead group counseling sessions on topics like bullying prevention, anger management, or study skills. Crisis Intervention: Respond to and support students during crisis situations, including traumatic events, grief, or emergencies. Collaborate with staff, parents, and community resources to provide immediate support and referrals as needed. Collaboration and Consultation: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop intervention strategies for students. Provide consultation on behavior management, student support plans, and academic accommodations. Parent and Community Engagement: Engage with parents through workshops, seminars, and individual meetings to address concerns and provide resources, including annual graduation requirement, concurrent enrollment, and capstone presentations. Collaborate with community organizations to access external support services for students and families. Data Analysis and Program Evaluation: Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of counseling and academic programs. Use data to inform decision‑making and implement evidence‑based practices for student success. School Record Maintenance and Registration: Maintain school records for each student including new student enrollments, transfer records requests, permanent records and other records to support school counseling efforts and data collection. Coordinate concurrent enrollment, grade reporting periods, final transcripts, universal screeners, and key college/career related assessments. Other duties: Accomplishes other duties as assigned. Reports To: The PreK-12 Principal. Job Goals Assist students in academic and career planning using the ICAP process to support students’ holistic development and ensure their well‑being throughout their educational journey. Foster a positive school climate that promotes inclusivity, empathy, and respect through collaboration and consultation for grief, trauma, emergencies, behavior management, academic accommodations, and individualized support plans. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support students' academic and social success. Terms of Employment 10 Month + 2 weeks. Salary according the salary schedule in the Master Agreement.
