Job Title: QC Supervisor

Reports To: Quality Manager

Main Function:

The QC Supervisor will oversee daily functions and personnel management in Spin QC labs at the Chestertown location.

Qualifications/Job Requirements:

Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent including science/general chemistry courses. College education preferred. Must be a leader who has excellent people skills and communication skills. Must be able to work both independently and as a team and work overtime as needed. Must be able to prioritize workload and meet deadlines. Must have demonstrated leadership ability. Must be computer literate, able to work with Microsoft applications, and able to learn and use company business software. Must be able to transport up to 40 pounds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Works in the laboratory to help with workload; this will include performing hands-on laboratory tasks such as testing disks, making standards and vats, performing titrations, troubleshooting failures, etc. (It is to be understood that managing the departments/employees will not require 40 hours of the Spin QC Supervisor’s time each week; the remainder of time should be devoted to working hands-on directly with your department/employees in any laboratory activities and completing special projects as needed.)

Personnel Management:

• Maintains records of each employees' attendance (including vacation, sick time, time off without pay, overtime, etc.). Reviewstimecardsfor accuracy andapproval andsubmits them in a timely manner to Payroll for processing.
• Assists employees with questions or problems they have regarding work assignments, priorities, safety, personnel issues, etc.
• Coaches and develops staff, fosters a team atmosphere.Separates friendship from business. Asserts oneself, rather than taking a passive approach to addressingissues.
• Counsels employees when necessary and recommends to Management such personnel actions as disciplinary action, transfer, termination of employment, etc. Documentsany issues, counseling efforts, etc.
• Evaluates employees using the Company's performance appraisal system.
• Overseestraining and orientation of new employees andoffersadditional training as needed. Offers re-training when necessary. Sets up and maintains cross trainingof staff.
• Participates inthehiring processfor new techniciansby attending interviews/tours and giving input oncandidates’ability to perform thejob and fit in well with the team.

Daily Functions:

• Assigns daily tasks and room assignments to QC technicians.Actively fills in to cover absences and requests help from Spin QC backups if necessary.Check onthe teamthroughout the day to be sure that any issues(equipment, people issues, chemicals, product issues, safety, etc.)are addressed promptly.
• Assures the QC staffisfollowing the SOPs and guidelines for Spin QC.
• Seeks advice from R&D, when needed, to determine whether chemicals need adjusting or whether Spin productionneedsto be temporarily placed on hold until problem isresolved andhandlesaccordingly.
• Makes data driven pass/hold/fail decision on tested samples. Provides recommended corrective actions to production based on test results and troubleshooting guide.
• Communicatesall issuesto the Quality Manager, Operations, and/orR&D in a timely manner.
• Prepares standards and vats used in the daily testing of Spin disksand performs titrations.
• Oversees QC room set up for each room during product change over and at the beginning of every shift.
• Manages meter usage ensuring only qualified meters are used and appropriate meters are selected for each test. Reports all meter issues using the broken meter form and sends broken meters to the meter department for inspection and maintenance. Notifies R&D support of immediate meter concerns.
• Conductsperformance tests on startup and hourly disksamples andrecords all performance data ondata sheets andlogs.
• Interprets data and makes reagent adjustments asneeded andrecords suchadjustmentsdata sheets and logs.
• Assuresthat allpaper and electronicQC documents (ex. QC data sheets, QC Client Software)and Spin room logsare completed accurately and the same day the work is done.
• Assures that daily taskchecklist is completed each day, including end of shift activities,making sure labs areclean and ingood working orderfor the next shift.
• Conducts and ensures completion of investigations when results out of specification or for other failures identifiedin the lab.
• Performs and oversees testing of held disk samples.
• Actively participates in and proactively seeks special projects for self and team during down time, which may include and is not limited to complaint investigation/testing, raw material or shipping & receiving inspections, R&D projects, QA projects.
• Provides support for production bag line as needed.
• Performs other quality relatedtasks asassigned by Quality Management.
• Participates in lean activities, including but not limited to:

1. Lean training and lean events such as kaizen or a 5-day event.

1. 5-S program in department or other areas assigned.

1. DMAICs. Continuously looks for ways to improve both the departments and own individual efficiencies and time management, as well as ways to improve any aspect of the Company’soperations anddevelopsandimplementsDMAICs accordingly.

1. Encourages staff to participate inallthe above.

• Conducts oneself professionally and leads by example. Maintains confidentiality of company information and personnel information. When in doubt, does not share information untilonehas asked whether it is appropriate to do so.
• Assists other departments as needed.
• Complieswith all Company policies (ex.personnel, safety, etc.).
• Performs other dutiesin support of business needsas assigned. (Such duties may or may not be essentialfunctions of the job.)

Environmental Factors & Physical Demands:

Works indoors in a laboratory setting. Requires walking, standing, sitting, reading, writing, transporting up to 40 pounds, operating a computer and working with chemicals, glassware, and lab instruments. Requires good manual dexterity, supervisory, communication, judgment, decision making and troubleshooting skills, ability to multi-task and attention to detail.
