Assigned Workday Calendar: 185 Days + 5 Extended Days

Job Status: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday - Friday; time split between two Avon Elementary Schools - Maple Elementary and Pine Tree Elementary

Benefits: Eligible for medical and dental insurance as well as supplemental benefits such as vision, life insurance, disability, etc. Provided long-term disability, TRF, 401(a) Retirement.


Paid Time Off Benefits: 9 sick days/4 personal days

Holiday Pay: Not Eligible

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Certification: Appropriate Indiana certification, Valid School Social Worker certification required, or a valid Indiana Student Services License preferred, LCSW also preferred
  • Experience: Previous experience in a school environment preferred
  • Other: A desire to continue acquiring professional knowledge and pursuing current developments in the social work best practices required.
Essential Functions:
  • Provide strategies and services at the individual, small group, classroom, and/or family levels.
  • Interact with students to identify barriers related to a successful student learning experience. Areas of focus will include addressing social, emotional, and/or mental health challenges to assist in the development of positive skills and outlook toward self as well as improved relationships with school, learning, peers, parents, teachers, and/or families.
  • Provide culturally responsive services to students, staff, families and community partners
  • Thorough understanding of child development, including the application of social work theories and current best practice standards
  • Delivery of social work counseling services, including but not limited to 1:1, small group, crisis intervention/assessment, and/or consultation
  • Adept in the time management, planning, organization, and documentation that relates to the delivery of social work services and counseling
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, families, and school personnel
  • Utilization and understanding of community resources to ensure appropriate referrals
  • Knowledgeable about student disabilities and strategies to support student, classroom, teacher and building.
  • Foster and maintain a good relationship with pupils, staff, patrons, vendors and the community
  • Display tact, courtesy and excellent etiquette that demonstrates genuine care and concern for staff, students, parents and other members of the community
  • Be an example of exemplary adult behavior for students
  • Collaborate with others across a variety of functions and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate proficient communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Work independently with limited direction to effectively meet deadlines and mitigate stressful situations
  • Comply with all Corporation policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Comply with all applicable local, state and federal regulations
  • Work to improve student well-being through the delivery of individual and/or small group counseling to best serve student needs
  • Conduct assessments and/or screenings, including crisis intervention, for the purpose of problem identification and recommend courses of action to maximize student well-being
  • Collaborate with school professionals, parents, and community partners to support improved student well-being.
  • Serve as a liaison between student, home, school, and community resources.
  • Access and link community resources to students, families, and the school in response to identified needs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing functional behavior assessments and individual behavior support plans. Develop and facilitate parent education sessions.
  • Deliver professional development to school staff regarding mental health and/or behavior needs.
  • May serve as a member of the school's MTSS team.
  • Consult with school staff, school counselors, teachers, and parents regarding strategies for helping students develop and apply coping strategies with personal and social concerns.
  • Serve as consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations which are not referred for direct service.
  • Assist with special education evaluations, as needed. Maintain current awareness of all legal requirements governing special education with an emphasis on federal legislation, state and local policy.
  • Build and nurture positive, collaborative relationships with school personnel by relating relevant data about referred students and families as they affect the student's overall well-being.
  • Facilitate referrals to school-based mental health services, if applicable.
  • Maintain accurate records of all visitations and referrals and make records available upon request.
  • Other duties as assigned by the school principal and/or district supervisor.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
