We are looking for reliable and hardworking Service Station Attendants to join our Fleet Maintenance team. This is an important job that helps keep Agency vehicles safe, clean, fueled, and ready for service. The work is fast-paced, with no two shifts ever being the same. This is a full-time position with benefits. Your work schedule will be based on seniority. When you first start, you will likely work second or third shift. As a Service Station Attendant, you will:
-
Help mechanics with basic repairs and vehicle maintenance.
Fuel vehicles with gasoline, diesel, CNG, or propane.
Fill diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) tanks when needed.
Check and fill vehicle fluids, such as oil and coolant.
Clean the inside and outside of vehicles.
Perform basic vehicle service and care.
Work both inside and outside in all types of weather.
Look for and report vehicle problems, damage, or safety concerns.
Work well with other Fleet Maintenance employees.
Follow safety rules and take responsibility for your work.
Use good judgment when doing your work.

All of Pierce Transit are required to participate in the Washington State Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Pierce Transit offers two Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plans to choose from, PERS2 and PERS3, as well as a matching program for 457 deferred compensation.
Employees are not covered under the Social Security System except for a 1.45% payment for Medicare.
Pierce Transit provides an ORCA Card benefit for each employee and a family member. This benefit provides free access to service on Pierce Transit, Sound Transit, Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro, Kitsap Transit, Seattle Monorail, Seattle Streetcar, King County Water Taxi and Kitsap Foot Ferry.
If you're not currently living in the Lakewood-area, that's not a problem! We may be able to help with reimbursing up to $2,500 in moving expenses for those who physically relocate their primary residence to the Pierce/King/Thurston County area (substantiated with receipts). Full-time Pierce Transit employees are eligible to receive 11 paid holidays, 2 personal paid holidays, 12 days of sick leave, 12 vacation days per year, and the ability to earn up to 2 additional personal holidays by participating in a qualifying wellness activity and the annual survey. Part-time employees, receive pro-rated leave, to include sick leave, vacation, personal holiday and holiday pay. Vacation leave accrual rates increase per the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The following functions are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Fills fuel tanks with gasoline, diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG), or propane.
- Fills diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) tanks as needed.
- Checks engine and transmission oil, coolant, and power steering fluid levels.
- Sweeps inside and washes both interior and exterior of vehicles as needed.
- Removes and replaces interior vehicle seats.
- Removes and empties cash boxes.
- Rotates and changes vehicle tires as needed.
- Performs minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting brakes, and servicing batteries.
- May be required to make coach changes throughout the Pierce Transit service area.
- Notifies the Fleet Assistant Manager of abnormal conditions such as excessive use of oils or coolant, air leaks, uneven braking or hard steering.
- Enters work order data on Agency personal computers and on handwritten work orders.
- Reports all damage or vandalism of vehicles to Fleet Assistant Manager.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
- May assist mechanics or independently perform light preventative maintenance repairs and services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school graduation or equivalent and two years' experience cleaning and/or performing routine care to automobiles or other equipment, or graduation from an accredited automotive program; or, an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
- A current Pierce Transit employee who has documented completion of the Service Station In-Training program is eligible for work up and meets minimum qualifications for this classification.
- Must possess a valid Washington State driver license at time of application, with maintenance thereafter.
- Must obtain a Class B Commercial License Permit (CLP) with air brake and Intrastate passenger endorsement prior to hire.
- Must successfully obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air brake and passenger endorsement within ninety (90) days of hire, with maintenance thereafter. Must maintain acceptable driving record throughout employment.
- This job is considered safety sensitive, covered by the Agencys drug and alcohol program and subject to testing according to federal regulations.
- May be required to provide basic hand tools such as pliers and screwdrivers necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Appointment is subject to successful completion of a pre-employment background check, pre-employment medical exam, physical ability test, and a drug and alcohol screen.
Knowledge & Abilities:
- Knowledge of parts, tools and equipment used in servicing automotive and diesel equipment;
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions followed in automotive and equipment repair shops.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions;
- Ability to work as a team with other employees in a directed work team environment;
- Ability to perform computerized work order methods and procedures;
- Ability to pass federally required drug and alcohol testing mandates; drive all job-related vehicles and maintain a valid WA State driver license and Intrastate Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Requires climbing, standing, bending and lifting heavy objects and working in confined and enclosed spaces.
- Must have the ability to meet the essential functions as described above including the ability to maneuver objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds, work outdoors in any kind of weather, and work with soaps and various cleaning agents.
- Must be willing to work any shift (assignment to swing shift, graveyard and/or weekends likely).
- Subject to exposure to fumes, dust and high levels of vibration.
- Subject to exposure to high noise levels requiring ear protection.
- Subject to working near moving parts of heavy machinery and high voltage equipment where the use of appropriate protective/safety equipment is required.
- Subject to working at heights and in adverse weather conditions.
- Work includes indoor and outdoor environment.
