Position Overview
Commún seeks an independent contractor to design, coordinate, and implement a 10-week summer camp that provides an enriched, fun, and inclusive experience for youth. The camp serves two groups: young children (ages 0–6) in a drop-in childcare setting, and youth (ages 7–18) participating in structured programming led by the Camp Lead, a contract Art Teacher, and volunteers.
The Contractor will be responsible for planning, direct facilitation, coordination with partners, communication with families, and program evaluation. The Summer Camp Lead ensures that all youth feel welcomed, engaged, and safe, while reflecting Commún’s values of cultural connection, belonging, and community leadership.
Program Structure
Group 1: Ages 0–6 (Licensed Childcare Team with Camp Lead support)
Group 2: Ages 7–18 (Led by Camp Lead + Art Teacher)
Daily Schedule for campers: 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM
Meals: Donation-based lunch provided for all youth and staff
Setting: Indoor program spaces + outdoor park access
Scope of Services
1. Program Planning & Design
- Finalize and implement a comprehensive 10-week camp plan with daily activity schedules for ages 7–18.
- Coordinate with the childcare team to ensure alignment and smooth transitions between partners where appropriate.
- Coordinate with partners to communicate logistics and ensure smooth transitions and predictability for youth and partners alike
- Integrate arts, recreation, literacy, cultural activities, volunteerism, and outdoor play.
- Plan for use of indoor spaces and nearby parks to create varied and engaging experiences.
- Ensure programming is inclusive of youth from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
2. Facilitation & Youth Engagement
- Lead daily programming for youth ages 7–18
- Co-facilitate activities with the Art Teacher, or create breakout groups for variety
- Create a welcoming, joyful, and structured environment.
- Support youth in building relationships, confidence, social-emotional skills, identity, and collaboration skills
- Adapt activities to meet varied ages, abilities, and language needs
3. Partner Coordination
- Coordinate scheduling and integration of partner-led activities, including:
- Public library programming
- Reading Partners (pull-out literacy support for younger children)
- Guest sessions (e.g., wilderness center, sports coach)
- Ensure smooth transitions and communication between partners and camp staff.
- Prepare youth and staff for partner activities and support engagement during sessions
- Ensure partners have necessary information (logistics) and materials for success
- Finding additional partners if needed
4. Staff Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate closely with the Art Teacher and childcare staff
- Communicate needs to Director of Operations
- Provide day-to-day leadership during camp hours
- Support volunteers and additional facilitators
5. Family Communication & Enrollment Management
- Manage participant registration and paperwork
- Maintain organized records of all enrolled youth
- Ensure new participants complete required forms prior to participation
- Serve as a point of contact for families, providing updates and addressing questions
- Create a welcoming environment for families at drop-off and pick-up
6. Operations & Logistics
- Oversee daily camp setup and cleanup
- Track attendance and maintain daily records
- File incident reports when needed
- Ensure safe supervision of youth at all times, including during outdoor activities
- Coordinate logistics for materials, supplies, and partner activities
- Ensure compliance with all safety and organizational protocols
7. Evaluation & Reporting
- Collect feedback from youth, families, staff, and partners.
- Track participation and engagement.
- Conduct a mid-program reflection to adjust programming as needed.
- Complete a final report summarizing outcomes, successes, and recommendations.
Estimated Time Commitment
Daily on-site hours: 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM Thursdays June 4 - August 6th
Additional time included in this contract for:
- Program planning (8 hours pre-camp, and 2 hours weekly)
- Coordination with partners and caregivers
- Evaluation and reporting (8 hours post-camp)
Estimated total: 80-100 hours for the entire contract
Preferred Qualification
- Preferred Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Master of Social Worker or social work experience
- Experience working with youth across a wide age range (children and teens)
- Bilingual Spanish/Arabic/English
- Experience working in multilingual and multicultural environments
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- CPR or First Aid Training
Requirements
- 1 year of experience leading youth programs, camps, after-school programs, or community programming
- English fluency
- Ability to frequently required to sit, reach and must be able to move around the work environment, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Prior to state date, Contractor is required to completed
- Background check screening
- Additional onboarding, as required
Compensation
Total contract is $3,600-$4,500, depending on experience. The Contractor can invoice on a monthly basis.

Independent Contractor Status
This position is a seasonal independent contractor role. The contractor retains discretion over how services are performed and is responsible for determining the methods used to achieve the agreed-upon deliverables, in coordination with Commún’s program needs. This role is not eligible for employee benefits, and contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and business expenses unless otherwise specified in the contract.
