Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director - Construction Casualty

Zurich is currently seeking an Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director – Construction Casualty to join our team in our Boston, MA or New York, NY office! While this position will be based out of Boston or New York, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week.Zurich is one of the leading insurance providers in the construction industry, our mission is to provide creative solutions for the risks our customers face today and in the future. As a Construction Casualty Underwriter, you will handle complex new and renewal accounts across Auto, GL, and Worker’s Compensation as well as the potential to handle large project/wrap-up insurance programs. As a member of Zurich's Underwriting Team, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with our Preferred Distribution Partners in the Northeast. While candidates with construction casualty experience are ideal, we will consider Senior Underwriter candidates who have a desire to expand their skillsets in the construction risk management space. The Construction Casualty Underwriter is responsible for:Serving as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end to end solution for their insurance needs.Using a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricingUsing risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at point of saleMarket facing and production within the growing Construction division Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rulesWorking within broad limits and authority on complex assignmentsThis role will be filled at either the Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director – Construction Casualty level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.Executive Underwriter – Construction Casualty Basic Qualifications:High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.ORHigh School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaORZurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaORZurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaANDExperience with Microsoft OfficeORAVP, Underwriting Director – Construction Casualty Basic Qualifications:High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing area or Banking, Mortgage, Finance or ConstructionORHigh School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaORZurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area or Banking, Mortgage, Finance, ConstructionORZurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaANDExperience with Microsoft OfficePreferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s DegreeAdvanced knowledge and practice of line/s of businessStrong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelinesAbility to effectively assess riskAbility to work in a team-based environmentYour pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The combined salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $215,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter is $100,000.00 - $165,000.00, with Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus eligibility set at 30%.
