Culinary Event Packer

Pay: $24 per hour
Position: Temporary, part-time through mid-December
Location: On-site in Tribeca, New York City

Olivier Cheng Catering and Events is a luxury catering company based in Tribeca. We produce private celebrations, fashion and cultural events, fundraising galas, corporate gatherings, and intimate dinners throughout New York City.

We’re looking for a Culinary Event Packer to help get finished food packed and ready for off-site events. You’ll work as part of our packing team, reporting to the Culinary Operations Manager.

The job includes counting, portioning, garnishing, wrapping, labeling, and packing food from kitchen menus and food pack-outs. You’ll follow our established procedures for containers and packing materials, then check your packed items against the paperwork before they leave.

This work suits someone who likes being part of a team and seeing an entire event order come together, ready to go.

You’ll shadow the packing team, help label containers and pack food, and begin with smaller packing assignments. Written procedures and daily checklists will guide the work.

The packing and operations teams will review your work with you, explain corrections, and check in regularly. As you learn the routine, you’ll take on more of the packing and checking yourself, with the team available for questions.

• Read kitchen menus and food pack-outs and pack the listed food in the correct quantities.

• Portion, garnish, wrap, and label finished food as instructed.

• Follow team procedures for containers, cold packs, insulation, protective materials, and food storage.

• Handle delicate and perishable food carefully and keep orders organized by event.

• Complete a second check of packed items, quantities, labels, and required materials before dispatch.

• Correct packing errors and ask the Culinary Operations Manager or packing lead about missing food, unclear instructions, or quality concerns.

• Help pack culinary equipment and disposables when needed; food packing remains the priority.

• Occasionally receive returned food and store it according to instructions.

• Help with loading and unloading on occasion. Driving is not required.

• Keep the packing area clean and organized, and help with other kitchen, inventory, and commissary tasks as assigned.

• Some experience in a kitchen, catering operation, food-packing role, fulfillment operation, or similar hands-on work.

• The ability to follow written instructions and count accurately.

• Care with food and an understanding of basic sanitation practices.

• Comfort following an established system and working as part of a team.

• Willingness to check your work and ask questions when instructions are unclear.

• Reliability and clear communication, especially when several events are being packed at once.

• Food-handler certification is preferred but not required.

• Spanish-English bilingual ability is helpful but not required.

This temporary, part-time position is expected to continue through mid-December, averaging approximately 24 hours per week.

Typical shifts run from around 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., although workdays and hours vary with the event schedule. Most work is Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend availability required. Some flexibility in start times may be available once you’re established with the team, provided event deadlines are covered.

Schedules are generally shared two weeks ahead. We may offer additional shifts at shorter notice, but those requests are optional if you are unavailable.

There is a good possibility of extension or future event-based work, depending on performance and business needs.

This is an active food-packing job. Duties include lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; standing and walking for extended periods; bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; and using stairs while carrying food or supplies.

You’ll move carts, coolers, and packing materials and work in kitchen, refrigerated, storage, and outdoor loading areas.
