Responsibilities
- Draw quality blood samples from patients, including pediatric and geriatric populations, ensuring safety and comfort during the procedure.
- Prepare and process specimens for laboratory testing according to established protocols and procedures.
- Verify patient demographic information and confirm specimen labeling in the presence of patients to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of specimen collection and processing activities.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, staff, and supervisors to foster a positive and respectful environment.
- Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and dress code to maintain a secure working environment.
- Support the organization's commitment to quality and process excellence in all daily activities.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, and be flexible to cover multiple locations, including Patient Service Centers and in-office phlebotomy sites, often on short notice.
- Travel between locations and work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts, based on staffing needs.
Required Skills
- Strong phlebotomy skills, with experience in pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Ability to perform error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to foster trust and confidence with patients.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in specimen handling and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
- Keyboard and data entry proficiency.
Additional Skills & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred, especially in California, Nevada, and Washington.
- Minimum of three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
- Experience working in a Patient Service Center environment is preferred.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record if travel is required.
- Flexible availability to work weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as needed.
- Must demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and a customer-focused attitude.
