Position Title Registered Respiratory Therapist FT Children's Dayshift (7a-7p) – 12/hr Position Details Location: BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital Shift: 12‑hour Day Shift (7 AM – 7 PM) Hours: 36 hours per week Full‑time, hourly rate: $12.00 per hour Sign‑On Bonus (External Candidates Only): Up to $5,000.00 Responsibilities Perform respiratory therapy for pediatric patients and communicate findings to the care team. Evaluate objective and subjective patient data, including blood gas analysis, and discuss conclusions with providers and nurses. Make therapy recommendations based on ABG results and ventilator parameters. Implement and administer therapy orders, ensuring they are complete and accurate. Perform age‑specific respiratory therapies under established protocols. Explain therapies in age‑appropriate language and assess patient response, adjusting treatment as needed. Administer and titrate oxygen therapy, monitor and modify treatment according to respiratory protocols. Notify the manager, nursing staff, and providers of adverse reactions or changes in patient condition. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and assist with Code Blue events, utilizing BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS guidelines. Assist providers with tracheal intubation and maintain artificial airways (endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes). Use infant and pediatric resuscitation equipment for emergency situations. Provide patient and family education as part of the care team. Conduct basic pulmonary function testing, EKGs, arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, end‑tidal CO₂ monitoring, and transcutaneous oximetry. Assist with bedside bronchoscopies, intubations, and extubations. Perform nasotracheal, endotracheal suction, and sample collection procedures. Assist with patient transport and ambulance transfers as required. Accurately communicate patient diagnoses and therapy at shift‑change reports. Charge patients for all therapies performed. Supervise and instruct Respiratory Care students, completing required preceptor courses. Work overtime, shift changes, and additional duties based on patient census and department needs. Maintain and clean respiratory equipment for readiness and supply availability. Orchestrate training for new personnel, nursing, and students on Respiratory Care procedures. Attend in‑services, online learning, and continuously fulfill educational requirements. Participate in departmental and hospital‑wide quality improvement activities. Actively engage in organizational performance improvement initiatives. Minimum Requirements Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (AS); Bachelor's degree preferred. Current Respiratory Therapist license in Michigan. For hires after 2004, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential within one year of hire. Completion of AHA courses: BLS (within three months of hire), ACLS, PALS, and AAP‑NRP (site‑specific certification within one year of hire). BLH and BSH hires: accredited Respiratory Therapy program completion (certificate, diploma, AS degree) plus five years of experience; Bachelor's preferred. Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, stoop, crouch, and kneel as needed. Demonstrated competencies to provide age‑specific patient care. Physical Demands Standing or walking for extended periods. Regular lifting of light‑weighted objects up to 50 pounds; occasional heavier mobilization. Stooping, crouching, and kneeling to gather equipment and respond to emergencies. Ability to perform quick movements in emergency situations.
