Secondary (Business Education) Teacher

Provides appropriate instruction, learning activities, and experiences that ensure all students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate content and grade level. Responsible for planning and implementing WV content standards and high-quality secondary learning objectives, instructing students using effective instructional strategies and providing appropriate learning experiences, with high expectations for all. Responsible for implementing adopted and supplemental academic programs. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Participate as a contributing member of the relevant, assigned department or program. Keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports as assigned. Analyzes data to improve instruction and models instructional strategies which promote student achievement. Communicate with parents through a variety of means, including conferences, to discuss student progress and interpret academic program objectives and requirements. Provide learning experiences designed to meet individual needs through individual and/or group instruction. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and out of the classroom by providing a safe and secure environment. Maintains and monitors an effective learning environment free of hazard, ridicule and prejudice. Assists with student management throughout the building, grounds and/or other JCS facilities. Coordinates parent/teacher and student/teacher conferences to review student performance, behavior, and other issues. Performs various administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and responding to emails and phone calls from parents, school administrators, and staff in a timely manner. Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, breaches of ethics, or any criminal activity of which the employee becomes aware. Effectively communicates with students, parents, and other stakeholders via verbal and written communication. Be accountable for individual student achievement and provide grades in accordance with the school's grading policy and procedures. May be responsible for planning and implementing designated co-curricular activities and/or programs at the school such as curricular fairs, awards programs, and field trips. Provides strong working/communication skills with students, parents, peers, and the community. Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning. Meets professional responsibilities and maintains professional work habits adhering to the Employee Code of Conduct. Willing to implement and participate in programs and activities designated by the principal for school improvement. Adhere to and, when appropriate, enforce School Board policies. Maintain a professional development plan according to district policies, and strive to improve professional competencies. Includes supervisory and/or other duties as assigned by the Principal. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and university. Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels of the assigned endorsement area, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate; Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a. Other Requirements Knowledge of and ability to implement the assigned subject matter relative to the duties and responsibilities listed on this job description. Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. Ability to differentiate instruction and assess student performance. Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner. Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed. Maintains regular, on-time attendance Knowledge of school safety and security procedures. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
