Key Responsibilities of the Director of Accounting

• Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and financial reporting
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while improving close timelines and reporting accuracy
• Ensure financial reporting complies with U.S. GAAP and established accounting policies
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and support compliance with applicable accounting and tax requirements
• Lead internal and external audit processes and coordinate supporting documentation
• Manage, mentor, and develop accounting professionals while establishing clear performance expectations
• Support budgeting, forecasting, financial analytics, and executive-level reporting
• Partner with Finance, HR, IT, and other departments to improve financial workflows and system integration
• Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting processes and improve operational efficiency
• Help evaluate and implement technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools within the accounting organization
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across accounting policies, processes, systems, and reporting

Qualifications for the Director of Accounting

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• 7–9 years of progressive accounting experience
• Combination of public accounting and non-profit/industry accounting experience strongly preferred
• 3–5 years of accounting leadership or supervisory experience
• Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks
• Experience leading month-end and year-end close and financial reporting
• Experience supporting internal and external audits
• Strong understanding of payroll accounting, tax compliance, and financial analytics
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with large ERP environments
• Experience with accounting automation, process transformation, or AI-enabled finance tools is highly preferred
• CPA or MBA preferred
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements
