Overview of the Role and Qualifications

In this position, you will work alongside various healthcare professionals, both within and outside the organization, to manage a comprehensive care plan for complex patients or groups of patients. You will need to foresee the implications of altered physiological states, employ advanced skills for early interventions, and contribute to identifying and implementing changes aimed at enhancing service operations and patient care outcomes. Critical care experience and specialized training are essential for functioning both independently and collaboratively in organizing and directing critical care patient transport (via ambulance, rotor wing aircraft, or fixed wing aircraft) while delivering direct care to patients with intricate needs.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Assessment: Utilize thorough assessment skills to conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients to identify their predictable and potential needs in complex scenarios.
  • Diagnosis: Provide care for patients with complex conditions, correlating clinical data with diagnoses and symptoms to initiate suitable therapies.
  • Outcome Identification: Determine expected outcomes tailored to each patient and collaborate with the TRN to adjust the care plan based on patient responses.
  • Planning: Develop care plans in partnership with patients, their families, and healthcare team members, adjusting them according to ongoing assessments.
  • Implementation: Anticipate potential crises and initiate early interventions to avert complications. Perform advanced skills specific to critically ill or injured patients in both hospital and transport settings.
  • Evaluation: Assess and modify the care plan in collaboration with the TRN based on observable responses to interventions and achievement of patient outcomes.

Qualifications Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care Practitioner Program.
  • A minimum of 2 years of direct respiratory care experience in a specialized critical care environment (preferably Level IV NICU, PICU, Emergency Department, ICU, or Level IV Labor and Delivery).
  • Completion of competencies as defined by the department/unit and/or clinical specialty area.
  • Previous transport experience is preferred.
Additionally, you must possess:
  • A current Respiratory Care Practitioner Certification License from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
  • A current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation (NPR), and STABLE certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist certification from the NBRC is highly recommended.
