Preschool Special Needs Classroom Teacher

The Preschool Special Needs Classroom Teacher is assigned as a generalist to deliver a comprehensive educational program in accordance with state law and West Virginia Board of Education and county policies and regulations. Holds or qualifies for a West Virginia Professional Certificate endorsed for preschool special needs. Qualifies or agrees to qualify as a "Highly Qualified Teacher". Length of Employment: 200 Days

Responsibilities include implementing the programs of study approved by the West Virginia Board of Education and the county Board of Education, creating and maintaining a classroom climate conducive to learning for all students, utilizing instructional management systems models that increase student learning, monitoring student progress toward mastery of content standards and objectives, communicating effectively with the educational community and parents/guardians on a regular basis, demonstrating competence in standards-based lesson design and implementation, implementing the state and county assessment program in accordance with state and county policies, implementing federal and state-mandated initiatives at the preschool level, completing and submitting all reports in a timely manner as required by law, the West Virginia Department of Education, and/or the county Board of Education, reporting the presence of any situation that may be harmful to the health and safety of the students and/or staff, screening and completing evaluations for any child who has learning deficiencies, participating in the development of the Individualized Education Program for each student assigned to the preschool special needs caseload, participating in appropriate aspects of the due process system, advising the principal of the presence of any situation that may require immediate intervention so as not to hinder the instructional program, completing duty assignments as designated by the principal, communicating to parents/guardians the progress and/or deficiencies of students, accepting responsibility for the behavior of the students assigned, supervising students at all times in accordance with state, county and school policies, attending all faculty senate and other required meetings, fulfilling annual continuing education requirements and attending other required training programs, reporting student attendance as legally required and in accordance with county policy, maintaining and ordering supplies and equipment necessary for the successful operation of the instructional program, accepting reasonable extra duty assignments necessary for a successful preschool program, using benchmarks and formative assessment on a regular basis to guide instructional plans, participating in school and district in-service trainings to gain knowledge of school and district initiatives, establishing and maintaining standards of classroom management that foster a learning environment, providing individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students, maintaining professional work habits, maintaining and upgrading professional skills, meeting all professional responsibilities, and performing other duties as assigned by the principal or Preschool/Preschool Special Needs Coordinator.
