The Licensing Team We partner collaboratively with clients to build and scale their companies, products, and capabilities. Our team understands intimately how to develop, scale, and comply because we have helped clients do so time and again. This role works with clients to acquire and maintain state licenses and advises them strategically on growing and scaling their regulated businesses and products. The right level will be determined by your experience, the complexity of work you can lead independently, and your capacity to mentor others and drive business development. Both levels are full contributors to client delivery; the distinction lies in ownership and leadership scope. Associate Executes licensing projects with guidance from senior team members Develops regulatory research skills and builds familiarity across license types and jurisdictions Supports client relationships under supervision of a Principal or Partner Typically 2 to 4 years of relevant experience Independently leads licensing engagements from scoping through completion Owns client relationships and serves as primary point of contact Mentors Associates and contributes to team development Participates in business development, including proposals and client outreach Typically 5 or more years of relevant experience Primary Responsibilities Responsibilities apply at both levels, with Associates supported by senior colleagues and Principals owning these areas independently. Manage licensing engagements across a variety of areas, including money transmission, lending, mortgage, brokering, and digital assets. Prepare and compile state license applications; lead or support license acquisition and maintenance projects. Advise clients on licensing and product development strategy and work closely with them to acquire and maintain licenses on their behalf. Research applicable federal and state regulations and apply findings to clients' products and services. Manage external stakeholder relationships, including regulators, auditors, law firms, and surety bond providers. Support clients in developing compliance and risk management programs, including policies, procedures, and implementation of new compliance processes. Contribute to new product development and other initiatives that help clients leverage licenses and scale their regulated businesses. Participate in firm development, thought leadership, and internal initiatives. Qualifications Required (All Levels) Experience with acquisition and maintenance of money transmission, lending, brokering, digital asset/crypto, and/or mortgage licenses. Hands‑on experience with the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS). Understanding of non‑bank financial services regulations, including those governing money transmitters, lenders, and/or mortgage companies. Strong project management and organizational skills, with excellent attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment. Genuine interest in the fintech and financial services space. Additional Requirements for Principal Level Minimum 5 years of relevant licensing experience at a consulting firm, law firm (as a lawyer or paralegal), or financial services company. Demonstrated ability to lead client engagements end-to-end with minimal supervision. Experience managing external stakeholders, including regulators and counsel. Track record of contributing to business development or client growth. Experience mentoring or developing junior colleagues. Nice to Have (All Levels) Understanding of fintech and general interest in emerging technologies and innovative financial services Knowledge of financial crimes compliance, including AML and sanctions programs.
