Job Title: Registered Radiologic Technologist Profession: Tech Specialty: Radiology Duration: 20 weeks Shift: 4x10 Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: IEMA Radiography License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, Registered in Radiography - ARRT(R) Must-Have: CATH LAB EXPERIENCE Description: The Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for patients for a designated time frame. This position provides care specifically in the Invasive lab. This role is responsible for diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, electrophysiology devices, peripheral vascular, neuro interventional, and interventional radiology procedures. The Cath/IR RT produces quality imaging and assists the Interventionalist in performing invasive procedures. Technical hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation using automated techniques are also part of this role. Responsibilities include administering contrast material according to physician's request. The technologist performs venipuncture and places IV lines while recognizing and responding to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions. Anticipating the set-up and needs for invasive procedures in various specializations is crucial. This role involves circulating, scrubbing, and monitoring cardiac Cath, neuro interventional, peripheral vascular, structural, interventional radiology, and electrophysiology device procedures. Assisting with inventory and coordinating with supply specialists to ensure necessary equipment is available is required. Verification of patient and chart identification, diagnosis, possible contraindications for the procedure, and treatment position is necessary. Completion of procedural documentation accurately and completely is essential. The technologist explains procedures to patients and provides for their comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality. Verifying the successful transfer of images to the system and troubleshooting basic issues is part of the responsibilities. This position requires performing on-call duties and/or working variable shifts to meet department needs. The technologist will maintain a clean and neat work area. Demonstration of competence in the operation of imaging and physiological monitoring equipment is required. Basic troubleshooting for this equipment is expected. Achieving hemostasis at vascular access sites and monitoring patients for complications are key responsibilities. Adhering to the principle of ALARA, the technologist maintains the safety of staff and patients during invasive procedures. Familiarity with adjunctive tools to complete procedures is necessary. Cath lab work responsibilities include various catheterizations and interventions. The technologist may assist in the instruction of new staff as necessary.
