Location: NYC/NJ (remote-first, with occasional in-office days in Linden, NJ) The Role The Controller will own ESW Beauty’s end-to-end accounting function, ensuring accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting while building scalable processes to support company growth. This role replaces the strategic oversight and management accounting functions currently handled by Crew Finance and will act as the internal leader of all accounting operations. Key Responsibilities: Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process Prepare and review full financial packages, including: Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements AR/AP aging reports Supporting schedules and reconciliations Ensure accurate accrual-based accounting in compliance with GAAP Lead month-end reviews with leadership and key stakeholders Analyze financial results and provide insights on variances, trends, and business performance Accounting Operations Oversight Oversee all core accounting functions, including: Accounts Payable (AP) Accounts Receivable (AR) Transaction coding and reconciliations Review and approve: Journal entries Account reconciliations Revenue recognition and adjustments Ensure accuracy of bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations Process Development & Internal Controls Build and maintain scalable accounting processes and internal controls Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements across: Procure-to-pay Order-to-cash Close cycle Establish documentation and SOPs for all accounting workflows Ensure strong audit readiness and compliance practices Cash Flow & Working Capital Management Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and working capital metrics Partner with leadership on cash planning and forecasting Optimize AR collections processes and AP payment timing Tax & External Partnerships Serve as primary liaison with external CPA firm for: Annual tax filings Financial statement preparation Support 1099 preparation and other compliance requirements Coordinate any audit, diligence, or special reporting needs Systems & Tools Own and optimize accounting systems and integrations Evaluate and implement tools to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency Ensure data integrity across all financial systems Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred) 6–10+ years of accounting experience (mix of public + industry preferred) Experience in consumer, CPG, or e-commerce businesses highly preferred Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting Proven experience owning month-end close and financial reporting Experience managing or building accounting teams Advanced proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and Excel High attention to detail and accuracy Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on Process-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset Strong communication skills with cross-functional teams Job Information Full-Time Role Base Compensation: $120K+ Other Compensation: Quarterly Bonus Location: Hybrid — must be based in the NJ/NYC area and able to commute to our New Jersey office (when requested) Competitive medical, dental, and vision insurance #J-18808-Ljbffr ESW Beauty
