Job Details Level: Management Job Location: Davis, CA 95616 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: Graduate Degree Salary Range: $95,000 - $120,000 per year Role Overview The Head Grower is a senior leadership position within the company whose primary role is to manage all aspects of crop production to achieve best‑in‑class yields and quality for the designated greenhouse region. With two direct reports, you’ll oversee and mentor the Assistant Grower and Growing Specialist. This role reports to the Director of Growing, West and works closely with the region Plant Manager. Responsibilities Oversee yield and quality for all crops to meet company targets. Use data‑driven approaches to manage all areas of crop production. Develop and oversee climate strategy for all plants and compartments. Determine optimal settings for all greenhouse equipment and irrigation. Evaluate climate strategy impact on energy use and yield. Develop and enforce cultural practices for young plant production. Maintain the IPM Programme, including compliance and record keeping. Direct the young plant program, dictating nursery culture and strategies. Coordinate regular monitoring of greenhouse, production, and irrigation equipment with the Maintenance Supervisor. Oversee the plant nutrition program. Review crop schedules and adjust as needed for sales, operations, or plant needs. Provide training to the operations team on crop‑specific tasks. Facilitate a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork. Deliver continuous climate management training to the Assistant Grower. Ensure proper documentation of growing KPIs in the central growing dashboard. Document all growing strategies and targets in the facility roadmap. Manage the plant nutrient calculator to determine add–ins and communicate to the Growing Specialist via print‑outs. Track agricultural supply spending and report to the Director of Growing. Lead by example and develop high‑performing direct reports through clear metrics, goals, and accountability. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, or a related field. 5–10 years of management experience in commercial greenhouse production. Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of crop production and growing in controlled‑environment agriculture. Experience with climate control software platforms. Highly organized. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer proficiency. Ability to drive cross‑functional alignment, especially with the Facility Plant Manager. Onsite Monday – Friday in Davis, CA. Employment authorization to work in the United States. Ideal Qualifications Master’s Degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, or a related field. Commercial production experience in hydroponics. Commercial production experience in leafy greens and herbs. Superior problem‑solving and analytical skills.
