Garage Supervisor

This position is responsible for planning, directing, supervising, and coordinating the daily operations of the City Garage. The Garage Supervisor oversees the maintenance and repair of City vehicles and equipment and supervises assigned garage personnel, including mechanics. This position ensures that preventive maintenance and repairs are completed safely, efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner to maximize vehicle and equipment availability and the effective use of City resources.

Major duties include managing and directing the daily operations of the City Garage, supervising assigned garage personnel, prioritizing and scheduling maintenance and repair work, providing technical direction and assistance to mechanics, reviewing and inspecting completed work, monitoring the progress of repair assignments, developing and managing a preventive maintenance program, overseeing emergency repairs, training and evaluating assigned employees, maintaining records, coordinating parts inventory, assisting in preparing the Garage operating budget, inspecting and road-testing vehicles, coordinating with City departments, ensuring compliance with regulations, and participating in interviewing, selecting, training, and evaluating garage personnel.

Knowledge required includes supervisory and management principles, methods and techniques used in automotive and equipment maintenance, preventive and corrective maintenance procedures, operating principles and repair of engines, troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures, fleet maintenance practices, safety requirements, state guidelines, purchasing and record-keeping procedures, diagnosing mechanical problems, reviewing maintenance and repair work, planning and supervising work, establishing priorities, operating diagnostic equipment and garage tools, preparing and monitoring budgets, maintaining records, interpersonal relations, and communication skills.

Minimum qualifications include specialized training in automotive or related fields, experience in automotive and equipment maintenance, supervisory experience, possession of a valid driver's license, and ability to obtain additional licenses and certifications.
