The Kansas City VA Medical Center is recruiting a full-time hematology/oncology physician. The Kansas City VA Medical Center provides comprehensive cancer care. The hematology/oncology physician is responsible for providing comprehensive care. Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
- Taking history, physical, admission, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, including consultations.
- Ability to make assessments of patients presenting with acute care complaints, diseases, and injuries.
- Ability to provide consultation for, diagnose, and treat hematologic diseases.
- Ability to administer chemotherapeutic agents to patients with malignancies.
- Rounding with residents and fellows on the inpatient ward.
- Covers call rotation with other physicians.
- Participates in tele-medicine services between the main medical center and the various Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
- Counsels and advise patients diagnosed with malignancy.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic studies.
- Provides ongoing outpatient care for assigned case load.
- Prescribes and refills medications within the defined scope of practice.
- Provides education and counseling of patients and families.
