MAINTENANCE WORKERS

Maintenance TechnicianPerforms routine and emergency repairs to district equipment and facilities. General areas of craftsmanship include, but are not limited to, carpentry and construction, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and/or vehicle maintenance.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms a variety of semi-skilled maintenance related activities; assists with assuring facilities are maintained in safe operation conditions.Picks up, moves, transports, delivers, assembles and arrange various furniture, materials and equipmentReports to department supervisor any repairs needed or equipment replacement requiredConstructs and repairs wood structures, maintains walls and patches holes as needed, applies paint to buildings and facilities as neededAssist journeyman level craft persons with maintenance repairs, equipment installation and remodeling projects related to various phases of carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and/or paintingRepairs wood and chain link fencesRepairs and replaces playground equipmentReplaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and ballastsPaints walls and benchesUnclogs, repairs and replaces restricted plumbing fixturesOperates and maintains a variety of tools and equipment including saws, drills and a variety of hand and power tools; cleans and cares for tools and equipment used on the jobMay drive a vehicle in the course of completing assignmentsPerforms a variety of jobs that constitute physical laborAssists with custodial, warehouse and mailroom activities when assigned, as neededProperly uses maintenance equipment and chemicals; reads labels on chemicals and M.S.D.S. (Material Safety Data Sheets) to ensure safe use, storage and handling of all maintenance related chemicalsDemonstrates responsibility for the safety of others, and in the use of materials and equipment; follows safe work procedures; ensures proper safety precautions, regulations, and industrial hygiene practices are observedKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of carpentry/construction, electrical, plumbing and/or building maintenanceStrong organizational skills and the ability to follow directions ad adhere to timelinesAbility to operate power tools, hand tools, test meters and other related equipmentAbility to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strengthKnowledge of modern methods, materials, and equipment used in maintenance and custodial workAbility to recognize potential safety problems and to take steps to prevent hazardsAbility to communicate effectively verbally and in writingAbility to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situationsAbility to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community membersKnowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policiesAbility to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional responseQualifications & RequirementsEducation & Experience:High school diploma or general education degree (GED)Minimum of three years of training and experience in carpentry/construction, electrical, plumbing or building maintenanceAny equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements
