Direct Support Professional / DSP

As a Direct Support Professional / DSP, you'll play a critical role in carrying out that mission by helping people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) complete everyday living tasks and achieve their goals.

• Schedule: Part-Time, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00am-3:00pm
• Location: Morehead City, NC
• Compensation: $18.00/hour

Your Role in Our Mission :

Transition to Employment:

• Support individuals during Job Club activities, volunteerism, and job shadowing.
• Accompany supported individuals to their community-based site to provide on-the-job training.
• Analyze job duties and tasks and completes a thorough job task analysis.
• Assist individuals in mastering skills and meeting production standards, fading support as appropriate.
• Assist in performing an individual's job duties to maintain necessary production as well as model work behavior.
• Provide supplemental evaluation, work development, and intensive training activities with individuals being supported according to their service plan and work schedule.

Recreation:

• Responsible for supporting individuals at learning and increasing skills in all areas of independence including, but not limited to: Self-help skills, independent living skills, accessing community resources, and pursuit of leisure activities.
• Participate in all program activities while ensuring safety, health, hygiene, and nutritional needs are met. Lift and transfer individuals as needed.
• This position may have additional responsibilities of Vehicle Driver and/or Vehicle Monitor. The Vehicle Monitor is responsible for monitoring individuals supported while being transported to and from Empower Site including planned outings and fieldtrips.

What We're Looking For:

• High School diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree preferred.
• Two years' experience working with individuals with developmental and other various disabilities preferred.
• Knowledge of the labor market and community services agencies, as well as skills in writing task analysis, systemic job training, counseling, advocacy, and supported employment preferred.
• Must be comfortable with a fast-paced work environment to meet the program's performance expectations.
• Valid North Carolina driver's license, clean driving record, and current insurance required.
• Must have reliable transportation for occasional travel throughout the program's territory.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
