Job Description

The Senior Financial Analyst supports the Director of Financial Reporting and partners closely with Senior leadership and department heads to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful financial information. This role prepares and analyzes financial reports, supports compliance and risk management activities, and maintains the fixed asset system. The position requires strong analytical skills, advanced proficiency in financial systems and Excel, and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to management and external auditors.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports to the parent company in accordance with established deadlines and reporting standards.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly actual versus plan management reports, highlighting key trends, variances, and performance indicators.
  • Investigate, analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate forecasted variances to management, providing meaningful insights and recommendations.
  • Provide quarterly updates of current-year financial forecasts for consolidation and public reporting purposes.
  • Support SOX compliance efforts, including control design and set-up, ongoing monitoring, and Section 404 testing requirements.
  • Support corporate tax, insurance, and risk management requirements as needed, ensuring accurate financial data and timely responses.
  • Assist with complex analytical troubleshooting and problem resolution, identifying root causes and proposing effective solutions.
  • Assist in the capital budgeting process by providing fixed asset projections and performing variance analysis between budgeted and actual results.
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute ad-hoc reports and financial models to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Maintain the fixed asset system (SAGE FAS), coordinate periodic fixed asset inventories, and record all related entries, including initial capitalization, depreciation, sales, and disposals of assets.
  • Collaborate with Finance personnel and other departments to ensure accurate financial information and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Interface periodically with external auditors by providing requested schedules, documentation, and explanations related to financial reporting and fixed assets.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting or finance experience.
  • Strong financial analysis and financial reporting skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint.
  • Experience maintaining and reporting on fixed assets, including use of systems such as SAGE FAS.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Ability to investigate, interpret, and communicate financial variances and forecasts to management.
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance efforts, including controls and testing.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data and reporting.
  • Ability to work effectively with Senior leadership, department heads, and finance personnel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with internal stakeholders and external auditors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous financial reporting experience for a public company is highly preferred.
  • Previous government contracting (GovCon) experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience with SAGE FAS fixed asset system.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Standard, Laserfiche Client, and electronic document management tools.
  • Experience with expense reporting and mileage tracking tools.
  • Experience with timekeeping systems such as Worktech Time.
  • Professional certifications or advanced coursework in accounting or finance are a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop financial models and ad-hoc reports to support business decisions.

Work Environment

This role operates in a fully onsite environment, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Senior Financial Analyst works within a broader finance department of approximately 12–15 people and reports up through the Director of Financial Reporting. The position uses a standard equipment set that includes a laptop, Adobe Acrobat Standard, Microsoft Office (2003/2007), Deltek Costpoint, SAGE FAS, Laserfiche Client, financial reporting tools, expense reporting and mileage tracking applications, and Worktech Time. The work environment is highly collaborative, with regular interaction across finance and other departments, and involves periods of focused, detail-oriented work to meet reporting and compliance deadlines.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.87/hr.
