Water Quality & Environmental Compliance Program Manager

Position Information Salary Range: $61,050 – $90,250 annually Location: East St. Louis, IL Job Title: Water Quality & Environmental Compliance Program Manager Posting Start Date: 5/20/26 Primary Role American Water seeks a detail‑oriented, compliance‑driven Program Manager to join the Water Quality & Environmental Compliance team. The role involves supervising the Bac‑T laboratory, reviewing data, conducting monthly regulatory and compliance reporting, and handling customer inquiries. Key Accountabilities Manage monitoring and reporting programs to ensure compliance with federal and state water quality and environmental regulations and company standards. Conduct advanced sampling and/or analysis and special projects (15%). Obtain, prepare, file and maintain all regulatory reports and records. Participate in internal and external audits and represent American Water with regulators and customers. Identify potential issues and problems, initiate responsive actions, and mitigate environmental violations (10%). Supervise, monitor, and calibrate analyzers/equipment to maintain performance and accuracy standards (10%). Conduct advanced projects and prepare reports as needed. Investigate and respond to all water quality complaints or concerns (40%). Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations. Regulatory knowledge of proper laboratory analytical testing methods. Understanding of water and wastewater treatment principles and ability to troubleshoot systems. Experience and Education Bachelor of Science degree. Minimum 5 years of experience in water, wastewater, and laboratory operations. Travel Requirements Local travel within the service territory. Work Schedule Full‑time, on‑site. Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. On‑call responsibility as needed.
