Associate Director, Solutions Architecture - Scientific Technology Platforms

Overview

Vertex is a global biotechnology company focused on scientific innovation. The Digital, Technology and Engineering (DTE) Research, Pre‑Clinical, Manufacturing & Supply (RPMS) Group seeks a Director of Solutions Architecture to lead digital transformation initiatives across Vertex globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the data and technology architecture strategy, emphasizing platform simplification.
• Enhance RPMS operations through innovative digital solutions and scalable, secure, high‑performance technology implementations.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify digital transformation opportunities and integrate solutions organization‑wide.
• Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate effectiveness and drive data‑driven enhancements.
• Apply architectural principles, standards, and patterns that promote scalability, security, and interoperability across RDMS systems.
• Maintain the live architectural blueprint for RDMS and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Lead diverse, high‑performing teams, fostering an inclusive culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
• Communicate with senior leadership and stakeholders to align on strategic priorities, progress, and impact of digital initiatives.
• Represent the RPMS group in cross‑functional meetings and advocate for digital‑driven approaches aligned with broader organizational goals.
• Provide architectural leadership and guidance on technical and digital transformation solutions.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of solutions architecture principles and best practices.
• Proficiency in adopting and implementing emerging technologies and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Strategic thinking and problem‑solving skills with experience developing long‑term architectural strategies.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
• Excellent project management skills to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including presenting complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to assess and recommend appropriate technology stacks and tools for various projects.
• Experience integrating systems and applications to create cohesive solutions.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Science, or related field; PhD or Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of solution architecture experience in research, development, manufacturing, or supply‑chain environments.
• Proven record of delivering scalable, secure, high‑performance solutions and aligning architectures with enterprise-wide technical direction.
• Experience in pharmaceuticals and life sciences, including architecture reviews and compliance with industry standards.

Compensation

Base salary range: $197,600 – $296,400. The role is eligible for an annual bonus, equity awards, and may qualify for overtime pay under applicable law.
