Salary: $22.50 - $26.75 per hour, based on experience

Summary:

The Medication Technician (Med Tech) is responsible for assisting Residents with the administration of prescribed medications and supporting their daily health and wellness needs. This role works under the supervision of licensed nursing staff to ensure medications are administered safely, accurately, and in accordance with physician orders and Community policies. The Med-Tech helps promote a safe, comfortable, and Resident-centered environment while supporting the overall wellness of Residents

Duties and Responsibilities: 

❖ Prepare and assist Residents with the administration or self-administration of prescribed medications following individual Medication Administration Records (MAR), while maintaining organized medication carts to ensuresafe and efficient medication passes . In VA/MD, able to administer medications with their scope of practice.

❖ Maintain medication inventory, monitor expiration dates, and ensure medications are labeled and stored properly in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Follow controlled substance procedures and ensure proper disposal of expired, contaminated, or unused medications. 

❖ Review medication administration and notify the Director of Nursing Services of any concerns related to dispensing instructions or potential adverse drug interactions. Ensure Resident medication records are accurate, complete, and that all required documentation is maintained. 

❖ Coordinate with pharmacy regarding medication issues, discrepancies, and Resident concerns.Report and resolve medication-related concerns in collaboration with the pharmacy and Community Director of Nursing Services or designee.

❖ Maintain current CPR certification, ensuring thorough knowledge of emergency procedures and response to all emergency situations. Perform first aid and/or CPR, if required. 

❖ Assist Director of Nursing Services with scheduling and follow up on physician appointments,ensuring medication orders are accurately recorded and carried out. 

❖ Maintain accurate, complete and up to date Resident records, ensure completeness of required documentation, Resident care notes, MAR, and incident reports. Provide appropriate follow-up as needed. Ensure confidentiality of Residents and Community information. 

❖ Observe Residents’ health needs, monitor and document medical and behavioral changes, and assist with re-evaluation to support appropriate care plan adjustments. 

❖ Work closely with Residents, families, staff, and healthcare providers, acting as the primary liaison with Residents’ supervising physician. 

❖ Participate in the move-in, transfer, and discharge planning of Residents. 

❖ Participates and assists neighborhood Team Members and Residents in executing emergency and disaster procedures during drills and actual events.

❖ Provide daily reports to the Director of Nursing Services concerning Community conditions, Resident conditions, and needs for nursing supplies. 

❖ Per guidance from the Director of Nursing Services, attend and participate in workshops, seminars, and training programs related to the health care industry. Participate in professional development activities as required. Maintain professional certification. 

❖ Report any suspicion or evidence of elder abuse, mistreatment, or neglect as outlined in company policy. 

❖ Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing Services or designee. 

Knowledge and Skill: 

❖ Current Medication Technician / Medication Aide certification in the state of practice, if applicable.

❖ High school diploma or equivalent required.

❖ Ability to perform calculations related to budgets, staffing requirements, medication dosages, and measurements, including percentages and area.

❖ Strong knowledge of geriatric care practices, dementia care, chronic disease management, and Resident-centered care models.

❖ Must be able to communicate with people of all ages clearly and proficiently, while maintaining an energetic and positive attitude. 

❖ Ability to read and understand English sufficiently to safely perform job duties, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively.

❖ Knowledge of applicable Federal and State health care regulations. 

❖ Must have excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic health record, and other technology management systems.

❖ Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced care environment while maintaining high standards of care and compliance. 

❖ Strong time management and organizational skills.

❖ Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Managers, Team Members, Residents, families, and the public. 

❖ Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the Community for extended periods of time while performing job duties. 

❖ Ability to lift, move, or assist with Residents, items, or equipment up to 25-50 pounds occasionally. 

❖ Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
