This position is subject to the Department of Conservation's Conflict of Interest code. Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary by 3% in exchange for leave credits. Under the general direction of the Underground Injection Control (UIC), Supervising Oil and Gas Engineer, the Supervising Engineering Geologist will act in a specialist capacity in the CalGEM Central District office. The position will act as the responsible charge for the review and approval of submitted geologic work including, but not limited to, UIC reviews, complex geologic project reviews, and aquifer exemption evaluations. The incumbent will provide essential leadership and coordination in the review and completion of complex geologic projects, and will be involved with planning, organizing, managing, and delivering complex geologic work. This position will require the incumbent to exercise good judgement and communicate effectively with CalGEM management and staff and will act as responsible charge and mentor for geologic work performed by CalGEM's unlicensed geologic and engineering staff. This position is located in Bakersfield and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule based on operational needs, with employees required to work in-person at 11000 River Run Blvd, Bakersfield, CA 93311.
