Braille Institute

Braille Institute of America, Inc., 741 N Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, California, United States of America Job Description Posted Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 10:00 AM

THE OPPORTUNITY

Join us in building a more inclusive world at Braille Institute of America. We are undertaking one of the most transformative initiatives in our history, planning our next century of success in serving the blind and visually impaired communities. Through our 2025-2027 strategic planning process, we identified the next generation opportunities to advance critical initiatives in areas such as customer research; the expansion and transformation of current programs and services; the development of new nationally and internationally accessible programs; the creation of dynamic new strategic partnerships; and the alignment of our mission, strategy, and resources. If you are ready to join a dynamic organization transforming the lives of individuals experiencing vision loss, we want you on our team.

WHO WE ARE

At Braille Institute, we are driven by a shared purpose: to serve the blind and low vision community. We come together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, finding fulfillment in the impact we create. We believe in fostering a culture that is collaborative, inclusive, and flexible. We understand the importance of work-life balance, valuing both personal and professional fulfillment. Here, you'll find an environment that supports your well-being while providing opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive alongside colleagues who are sighted and visually impaired. Join us in embracing technology and innovation as we shape the future of accessibility and positively transform the lives of those with vision loss.

JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: All employees within Braille Institute are expected to support the organization’s mission, vision, and values, work cooperatively with others, contribute to the positive morale of the department/center and be a respected representative of the organization. Job Summary: The Programs Videographer is responsible for advancing Braille Institute’s mission through innovative, high-quality, and accessible video and audio content that attracts and engages new clients nationwide. This role encompasses the direction, production, and delivery of podcasts, instructional videos, and recorded programming, while ensuring technical excellence for live and virtual programs and events. Working in close collaboration with the Senior Director of Virtual Services and the Programs Media Manager, the Programs Videographer identifies opportunities to expand the reach and impact of Braille Institute’s offerings by leveraging emerging video formats and new technologies. Every production decision — from lighting and audio to pacing and on-screen text — must center the needs of individuals with vision loss: people who need content that is respectful, warm, approachable, and immediately useful. The Programs Videographer brings both technical excellence and genuine empathy for this audience to every project.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Video Production Direct, produce, and edit short-form instructional and informational videos (typically 2–3 minutes) across a broad range of practical topics relevant to older adults with low vision. Capture B-roll and behind-the-scenes footage of programs and events for marketing and production purposes. Review, edit, and assemble raw footage into cohesive, polished final products that reflect the organization’s voice and production standards. Plan, coordinate, and execute production workflows and schedules across multiple concurrent projects. Lead original video projects from concept to completion, including scripting support, location or studio setup, filming, editing, color correction, audio mixing, and final export. Set up, operate, and maintain camera, lighting, audio, and streaming gear for both in-studio and on-location shoots. Ensure all media assets are properly archived, clearly labeled, and easily accessible to the broader team. Accessible Production Design Apply accessibility standards to every production decision: optimize lighting, contrast, and color for viewers with low or variable vision; avoid visual clutter, rapid cuts, or small on-screen text. Design and produce on-screen graphics, captions, titles, and lower thirds that meet or exceed Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) accessibility guidelines for size, contrast, and readability. Ensure all videos include accurate closed captions and, where applicable, audio descriptions that convey relevant visual information not communicated through spoken content. Maintain audio clarity as a primary production standard: clear voices, minimal background noise, appropriate pacing, and audio mixing suited to viewers who may also have hearing changes. Design on-screen demonstrations with the target audience’s visual capacity in mind: maximum text size, high-contrast settings, zoomed or magnified views, and deliberate pacing. Stay current with emerging best practices in accessible video and audio production as technologies and standards evolve. Virtual and Live Event Production Provide technical production support for live and virtual programs, events, webinars, and discussion groups, ensuring broadcast quality and accessibility throughout. Manage streaming setups, virtual platform configurations, and live recording workflows for synchronous program delivery. Collaborate with program facilitators and presenters to prepare them for on-camera delivery, including coaching on pacing, visibility, and audio quality. Troubleshoot technical issues in real time during live productions to minimize disruption to participants. Collaboration and Workflow Work closely with the Programs Media Manager and Senior Director of Virtual Services to align production output with organizational priorities and program goals. Collaborate with the Learning Experience Designer and subject matter experts to ensure video content reflects adult learning principles and audience-centered design. Contribute to the development and ongoing refinement of production standards, templates, and style guidelines. Prepare and deliver video files in formats appropriate for web, email, learning platforms, and social media distribution. Participate in content review and apply audience feedback to the continuous improvement of production quality and effectiveness. Performs other duties as assigned. As the organization continues to evolve, duties or tasks may change without impacting the overall Job Description. Supervisory Responsibilities: None QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job duties. Knowledge and Education: Bachelor’s degree in film production, Video Production, Digital Media, Communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered. Coursework or training in accessible media production, User Experience design, or human-centered communication is a plus. Comprehensive knowledge of videography principles including camera operation, composition, lighting design, and audio recording techniques in both studio and on-location settings. Strong knowledge of post-production workflows, including editing, color correction, motion graphics, and audio mixing for digital distribution. Working knowledge of accessible video production standards, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) guidelines for captions, audio description, contrast, and on-screen text readability. Understanding of how older adults engage with on-screen content, including the importance of pacing, text legibility, audio clarity, and emotional tone. Knowledge of podcast production workflows, including recording, editing, and distribution for audio-first content. Familiarity with live streaming platforms and virtual event production tools. Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects; familiarity with the broader Adobe Creative Suite is a plus. Strong post-production skills with demonstrated ability to manage complete editing workflows independently. Producing screen-capture and device demonstration videos optimized for older adult viewers, including maximum text size, high-contrast settings, and deliberate pacing. Ability to direct and put at ease non-professional on-camera subjects who may be new to being filmed. Comfortable working independently and managing multiple productions at different stages simultaneously. Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to file management, archiving, and production documentation. Collaborative working style with the ability to receive and integrate direction from program staff, subject matter experts, and organizational leadership. Experience: 3+ years of professional video production experience, with a portfolio demonstrating short-form instructional, educational, or explainer video work. Demonstrated experience producing content for older adult audiences or for audiences with accessibility requirements. Experience producing screen-capture or device demonstration videos, particularly for mobile devices. Experience supporting live or virtual event production, including streaming and broadcast setups. Experience managing the full production lifecycle independently, from planning through delivery and archiving. Experience in nonprofit, health, human services, or mission-driven production environments is a plus. Portfolio required: candidates should be prepared to share examples of short-form instructional video work with particular attention to accessibility, pacing, and audience-centered communication. Certifications/licenses: Professional certifications in video production, post-production, or digital media are a plus. Professional development or coursework in accessible media production, gerontology, aging studies, or disability-inclusive design is highly valued. Work Environment: This position works across multiple environments: on-site production at Braille Institute locations and in community or participant settings; remote editing and post-production; studio and standard office settings. Local travel to filming locations is required. Some evening or weekend availability may be needed for live event or program support. Physical Requirements: Position operates a variety of video equipment. May be required to lift to 30 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds. May be required to travel occasionally to other locations in the local area and regional offices. Pay range: $65,000-$75,000
