Duration: 24 Weeks

Start/End Time: 07:00 AM - 05:30 PM

Work Schedule: Day Shift, 4 x 10s. Shifts are 4 consecutive days. 7am start time



Medical Technologist - Microbiology (CLS) Roles & Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform microbiology testing and analysis on patient specimens, including cultures, organism identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
• Process and evaluate blood, urine, tissue, wound, respiratory, and other clinical specimens according to laboratory protocols.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment used in microbiology testing.
• Accurately document and report test results using the Cerner Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Review and verify laboratory results to ensure accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
• Follow established laboratory procedures, infection control guidelines, and safety regulations.
• Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to maintain laboratory excellence.
• Communicate critical test results to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in a timely manner.
• Maintain proper specimen handling, storage, and chain-of-custody procedures.
• Assist with laboratory inventory management, reagent preparation, and equipment maintenance.
• Support laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License.
• Experience working in a Microbiology laboratory.
• Proficiency with Cerner Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Strong knowledge of microbiological testing procedures, laboratory practices, and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• ASCP Certification.
• Previous experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
