Essential Job Functions Responds to calls and other requests from the public for emergency assistance. Patrols community and assigned areas for any traffic and other types of violations. Alternate Level Hiring Process: $27.33 No entry‑level test required. Eligibility Requirements Intermediate TCOLE Peace Officer Certification 3 years prior law enforcement experience and actively worked in law enforcement within 12 months preceding application Application and Selection Process – Alternate Hire Phase 1: Written Examination – Not applicable for alternate hire applicants. Phase 2: Background Investigation – Must complete detailed Personal History Statement and submit by specified date. Phase 3: Physical Agility Test – Must meet age‑based performance standards for 1.5‑mile run, push‑ups, sit‑ups, and 300‑meter run. Phase 4: Interviews – Successful candidates presented to interview board. Phase 5: Pre‑Employment Physical Examination – Conducted by authorized medical physician. Reasons for Disqualification Conviction for, indictment for, or current charge of any felony offense. Conviction for any Class “B” or above misdemeanor within the last 10 years. Conviction of any family violence offense. Driving under influence within 3 years preceding application. Probation for any offense. Illegal use of controlled substance or dangerous drug other than marijuana within 2 years. Illegally furnishing controlled substance to another. Excessive traffic convictions or negligent collisions within 3 years. Failure to maintain financial responsibility without extenuating circumstances. Discharged from military service under less than honorable conditions. Rejected as a witness for Brady violation or listed on Brady Disclosure list. Resigned or terminated from Kingsville Police Department within 24 months for disciplinary reasons. Failure to cooperate with hiring process, omit required information, or refuse polygraph exam. Benefits Health Insurance – In‑Network – 80% co‑insurance after deductible, variable plans. Retirement – Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with 2:1 employer match at retirement (20 years of service or 5 years and age 60); deferred contribution programs available.
