Reporting directly to the Owner and Director, the Assistant Director supports the daily operations, administration, staff management, and overall quality of Legacy Childcare Center. This role assists in maintaining compliance with all Tennessee DHS licensing standards while helping create a safe, organized, and nurturing environment for children, families, and staff.
The Assistant Director works closely with leadership to support center operations, staff development, enrollment management, parent communication, and classroom success. This position is ideal for a strong leader who thrives in a fast-paced childcare environment and is passionate about early childhood education.
Position ResponsibilitiesAdministrative Support
- Assist with overseeing the daily operations of the childcare center.
- Support implementation and maintenance of high-quality childcare standards and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Maintain working knowledge of DHS licensing regulations, QRIS standards, and State of Tennessee requirements.
- Assist with ensuring compliance with licensing, safety, health, and classroom standards.
- Help oversee student enrollment, waitlists, and maintenance of complete student files.
- Assist with weekly EAV submissions and state voucher processes.
- Support Brightwheel management, attendance tracking, parent communication, and billing support.
- Monitor classroom supplies, equipment, and facility cleanliness to ensure center readiness.
- Assist with coordinating center events, holiday activities, and family engagement opportunities.
- Maintain professional and productive relationships with parents, staff, and community partners.
- Help manage scheduling and classroom coverage to maintain proper teacher-to-child ratios.
Staff Leadership & Team Support
- Support staff supervision and daily classroom operations.
- Assist with onboarding, training, coaching, and mentoring teachers and support staff.
- Help maintain a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Support implementation of curriculum and classroom structure across all age groups.
- Assist with staff schedules, breaks, classroom transitions, and coverage needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development initiatives.
- Encourage professionalism, accountability, and strong customer service among staff.
- Assist leadership in maintaining consistent expectations and center policies.
Family & Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with families and maintain open communication.
- Assist with tours, parent meetings, and new family orientation.
- Represent Legacy Childcare Center professionally within the community.
- Support marketing efforts, outreach events, and enrollment initiatives.
- Assist in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all families.
Education & Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a licensed childcare facility required.
- Leadership or management experience in a childcare setting preferred.
- Knowledge of Tennessee DHS licensing standards preferred.
- Experience with Brightwheel, scheduling systems, and childcare administration preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills required.

- Ability to move throughout the facility and classrooms daily.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds as needed.
- Ability to supervise children both indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and remain active throughout the workday.
Other Requirements
- Must pass all DHS background check requirements.
- Must meet Tennessee Department of Human Services qualifications.
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
