Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and specimen storage following established procedures
• Collect and store specimens such as blood, urine, or fecal samples according to protocol
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and butterfly needles as appropriate
• Ensure all laboratory requisitions and labels match test orders for accuracy
• Prepare specimens for transport, including packaging, labeling, and maintaining specimen integrity at required temperatures
• Operate centrifuge and handle specimens according to safety and procedural standards
• Maintain proper documentation of maintenance data and decontamination procedures
• Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations for laboratory safety and specimen handling
• Attend departmental training sessions and participate in continuous education
• Answer phone inquiries and communicate laboratory results clearly to healthcare providers

Required Skills

• Experience performing blood draws and specimen collection in a clinical setting
• Proficiency in labeling, centrifuging, and storing specimens
• Strong attention to detail to ensure specimen and test accuracy
• Ability to follow strict safety and OSHA regulations
• Excellent communication skills for explaining procedures to patients and staff
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite

Additional Skills & Requirements

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment
• Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a high-volume laboratory or hospital environment
• High School Diploma or GED required
• 0-2 years of relevant work experience
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Commitment to ongoing training and safety standards
