Embedded Systems Engineer

Full-time

Energy4Life

Salary: $130,000 - 130,000 per year Requirements:

  • We are looking for roughly 7–12 years of experience developing electronic products and embedded systems, or an equivalent track record of comparable strength.
  • We need at least one commercial device taken from concept to a functional prototype, ideally through to production.
  • We expect hands-on experience building both custom hardware and production-ready firmware.
  • We need proven experience directing external partners across PCB, firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing work.
  • You should be comfortable debugging hardware directly with bench tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, JTAG/SWD tools, and rework equipment.
  • Professional PCB design experience is required with tools such as Altium, Cadence, OrCAD, KiCad, or Eagle; Altium is strongly preferred.
  • Strong practical knowledge across embedded hardware, firmware, wireless systems, and shipped connected products is important.
  • Meaningful transferable experience in several relevant areas is expected, including Nordic nRF52/nRF53, STM32, TI low-power and analog components, BLE, battery systems, low-power optimization, sensors, wearable devices, controlled-output devices, secure OTA updates, and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience with RTOS platforms such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr is highly valuable.
  • Experience in mobile connectivity, wearable engineering, or regulated/medical-device development is a strong advantage.
Responsibilities:
  • We will own the full embedded system from concept through architecture, including microcontroller, radio, sensors, power, outputs, and interfaces with firmware and the mobile app.
  • We will define technical interfaces, evaluate build-versus-buy decisions, and identify engineering, regulatory, and supply-chain risks early.
  • We will design and review analog and digital circuitry for a compact connected device, including power management, BLE performance, charging and protection, user-interface hardware, and fail-safe behavior.
  • We will own schematics and multilayer PCB layouts, with attention to signal integrity, grounding, EMI/EMC, thermal design, and manufacturability.
  • We will drive fabrication, assembly, prototype builds, board bring-up, troubleshooting, and redesign until the hardware is stable and production-ready.
  • We will define firmware architecture, device states, communication protocols, and hardware-control methods, and develop or oversee production-quality C/C++ firmware.
  • We will manage sensor acquisition, BLE pairing and secure updates, output control, battery management, low-power behavior, fault handling, bootloaders, calibration, and diagnostics.
  • We will move devices from proof of concept to engineering prototype and production-equivalent units.
  • We will create test, fault-analysis, and design-verification approaches, while managing BOM cost, component lifecycle, supplier coordination, test fixtures, calibration, and engineering change control.
  • We will use AI extensively to accelerate firmware, research, testing, analysis, and documentation.
