Program Analyst

Overview ATF is a law enforcement agency in the U.S. Department of Justice that protects our communities from violent criminals, illegal firearms trafficking, explosives misuse, arson/bombing, terrorism, and illegal diversion of alcohol and tobacco products. The Office of Public and Government Affairs, Information and Privacy Governance Division in Washington, D.C., houses this Program Analyst position, which reports to the Division Chief and serves as the primary point of contact for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) compliance matters. Responsibilities Coordinating timely and accurate responses to FOIA requests. Identifying operational needs, addressing potential gaps and challenges, and ensuring compliance with information privacy policies and governance standards. Conducting comprehensive assessments of FOIA processing software, analyzing system efficiency, and recommending updates and enhancements. Organizing and coordinating meetings and training sessions for FOIA program teams. Key Requirements Must be a U.S. citizen or national eligible for federal employment. Background investigation and Selective Service registration or exemption required. May be required to serve a one‑year probationary period. Must sign a mobility agreement as required for new employees under this vacancy. Qualifications For GS‑13, at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑12 level in federal, state, or local government or an equivalent public or private sector experience. Experience must include applying FOIA principles to data collection, analysis and reporting; ensuring compliance with FOIA regulations; generating reports using FOIA‑related systems; and negotiating acceptance of FOIA recommendations. Education is not a qualification requirement for this position.
