The Job Captain will support a diverse and growing portfolio of federal, institutional, public-sector, education, healthcare, industrial, and commercial projects. This role provides technical leadership, project coordination, and production support while working closely with higher level architects and multidisciplinary engineering teams. The Job Captain remains a hands-on contributor, assembling coordinated design packages, supporting project startup activities, and guiding technical project execution with limited oversight in a collaborative, low-ego environment.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate architectural projects from design development through construction documents, ensuring quality, accuracy, and consistency across all phases.
• Assemble and coordinate multidisciplinary drawing sets, integrating architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and other disciplines into cohesive documentation.
• Lead and support project planning, design development, detailing, and construction documentation activities in alignment with project goals and standards.
• Coordinate directly with in-house engineers and external consultants to resolve design issues, clarify requirements, and maintain alignment across disciplines.
• Develop and produce architectural deliverables in Revit, including plans, sections, elevations, details, and schedules for complex building projects.
• Review and incorporate markups, redlines, and project revisions into drawing sets, maintaining version control and documentation integrity.
• Support project startup tasks, including setting up models, templates, and standards, and helping to define project workflows and documentation strategies.
• Participate in project meetings, site investigations, and coordination efforts as required to gather field information, validate design assumptions, and support construction activities.
• Identify design and coordination conflicts early in the process and work proactively with architects, engineers, and consultants to resolve technical issues.
• Take ownership of project deliverables, ensuring that deadlines, quality expectations, and client requirements are consistently met.
• Contribute to construction documents and construction administration efforts by clarifying design intent and supporting project teams during execution.
• Remain actively involved in design, production, coordination, and technical project execution rather than focusing solely on project management tasks.

Essential Skills:

• Advanced proficiency in Revit with the ability to contribute immediately in a production environment.
• Proven experience producing construction documents and assembling complete, coordinated drawing sets.
• Strong construction document (CD) phase experience, including detailing and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate architects, engineers, and consultants on complex projects.
• Capability to identify conflicts and resolve technical issues across architectural and engineering disciplines.
• Comfort communicating directly with other disciplines and stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
• Experience working within an architectural or architecture/engineering (A/E) consulting firm.
• Familiarity with public, institutional, education, healthcare, industrial, or federal projects.
• Ability to start projects with limited guidance and drive them forward through technical leadership.
• Strong understanding of how architectural and engineering disciplines interact within multidisciplinary design packages.
• Proven ownership of construction document production and responsibility for deliverable quality.
• Approximately 7–12 years of architectural experience, including significant Revit production and coordination work.
• Comfort working directly with architects and engineers while contributing both technically and in a coordinating capacity.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Registration in progress toward architectural licensure.
• Participation in an NCARB track or similar professional development pathway.
• Experience with federal projects, including familiarity with applicable standards and processes.
• Experience with military or Department of Defense (DoD) projects.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for supplemental drafting and documentation tasks.
• Experience with BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud platforms for model sharing and collaboration.
• Construction administration experience, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and supporting field activities.
• Field investigation experience, including site verification and existing conditions documentation.
• Exposure to specifications and the ability to coordinate drawings with written project requirements.
• Experience with healthcare, laboratory, higher-education, institutional, or broader public-sector projects.
• Interest in growing toward broader project responsibilities while remaining hands-on in design and production.

Work Environment:

The Job Captain will work in a collaborative architecture and engineering environment that emphasizes technical excellence, coordinated multidisciplinary design, and low-ego teamwork. The role involves daily use of Revit for production, with additional use of tools such as AutoCAD and BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud to manage models and documentation. You will work closely with in-house architects and engineers, as well as external consultants, on a variety of federal, institutional, education, healthcare, industrial, and public-sector projects. The workload is tied directly to increasing project volume, providing immediate opportunities to contribute to newly awarded projects and to take increasing ownership of project execution over time. The environment supports long-term growth within an expanding organization and offers consistent exposure to complex, technically demanding projects where hands-on engagement in design, documentation, coordination, and technical execution is highly valued.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sacramento, CA.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $58.00 - $72.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
