Environmental Health And Safety Specialist

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health And Safety Specialist to join the team in Concord, NC.

The successful candidate will drive, promote and train to ensure a culture of continuous safety improvement and safe working conditions. Collaborate with leaders to develop and implement safety specific strategies, policies and procedures to improve overall safety performance. Work directly with management to develop and maintain training programs, coordinates awareness events and provides leadership in safety policy implementation. Ensure safety and environmental compliance with all Company, Local, State and Federal regulations. The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist will assist in the continual improvement and maintenance of a comprehensive EHS program.

Key Responsibilities:

• Under the leadership of the EHS manager, the EHS Specialist is responsible for ensuring that Legrand's Concord facility is in compliance with all state, federal, DEP, and OSHA regulations regarding health and safety
• Direct, lead and motivate plant personnel to achieve safety goals and objectives in a timely and safe manner.
• Assist in investigating the circumstances of a workplace accident investigation objectively, determining root causes, implementing measures to prevent recurrences and managing corrective actions.
• Lead Safety Committee team to include providing guidance to committee leadership, oversee safety inspection process, monthly meeting and subcommittee activities. Ensure prompt follow up on all open safety task lists to hold gains attained by safety teams.
• Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, new employee orientation, job instruction and use of safety equipment throughout the organization. Maintain records of training accordingly.
• Facilitate and lead training events, safety activities, process improvements, visual and communication.
• Report and review findings from facilities inspections, and/or testing conducted.
• Inspect facilities, machinery and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
• Ensure that safety compliance requirements are met by managing safety measurements and metrics, reporting, analysis, follow up and record keeping as mandated.
• Direct activities and provide guidance to management and employees to identify, assess, plan, and control potential environmental risks and impact.
• Ensure Emergency Response plans are in proper working conditions and leading competency drills
• Conduct activities related to environmental compliance, reporting, regulatory permitting, hazardous waste handling, and waste reduction/recycling programs
• Oversee maintenance of all safety records including the SDS database and GHS program implementation.
• Assist business in meeting Corporate established Sustainability and Environmental goals.
• Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property are in compliance with Legrand policies and safety requirements.
• Provide advice, assist, and audit line management to ensure that effective EHS is implemented and working.
• Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected. Maintains all logs and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments on the processes and regularly conduct training needs analysis.
• Support ISO14001/ISO45001 requirements/auditing
• Performs other similar and related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education :

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related discipline or equivalent experience.
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP) Certification (preferred)

Experience :

• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience focused on safety, preferably in lean manufacturing environment. Experience ensuring compliance with Local, Federal, State and OSHA regulations.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

• Proficient knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, nationally/state recognized standards and guidelines relating to specialized environmental health and safety functions as required by position.
• Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and investigation skills. Requires ability to effectively handle multiple priorities as well as to evaluate situations, identify options and implement effective solutions quickly and efficiently and possess a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
• Ability to work in cross-functional teams with diverse backgrounds and skill sets
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - Assemble, arrange, compute, and interpret data. Generate reports as required.
• Ability to host and present safety topics to large groups
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
