Custodian Position

The principal duty of all employees is to assist in the mission of the Church in the Diocese of Fort Worth. General Position Summary:

The Custodian position provides cleaning services, e.g. trash removal, mopping, vacuuming, restroom cleaning etc. in the church, all classrooms, parish offices, and parish hall.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Cleans restrooms, sweeps, and mops hard floors, church and foyers floors (before weekend masses), vacuums carpeted areas and dusts all surfaces.
• Cleans kitchens in both buildings. (sink, counters, and microwave).
• Empties trashcans; vacuums all floors in all areas, and office; cleans all glass doors.
• Dusts all furniture in public areas, mops kitchen, bathrooms, and front & back entrance floors, cleans bathrooms and windowsills in public areas.
• Wipes out refrigerator, wipes baseboards, dusts blinds and ceiling corners, vacuums along baseboards and in corners in both buildings at least once a month.
• Upon request of the occupant of individual offices: empties trashcans, vacuums/sweeps floors, dusts furniture, cleans windowsills, disburse of dried flower arrangements and clean vases.
• Performs monthly, semiannual, or annual janitorial duties and projects as directed by the Business Manager and in accordance with maintenance schedules.
• Secures and stores all cleaning supplies and equipment after completion of cleaning
• Vacuums as early as possible in public office areas to avoid undue noise during telephone conversations and meetings during regular office hours.
• Maintains cleaning supplies, all-purpose cleaners, cloths in a closet accessible to staff members in case of an emergency clean-up.
• Orders all needed supplies through Parish office.
• Maintains all cleaning equipment in a safe and working order.
• Uses only approved cleaning products and clothes for computer and electronic equipment.
• Other duties as assigned by the Pastor or Business Manager.

Supervision Given and/or Received:

• Received: moderate supervision given to this position from Parish Pastor or Business Manager.
• Given: this position provides feedback and guidance to the Parish Administrative staff, volunteers, and/or vendors upon advice and consent of the Business Manager.

Internal Contacts:

• Diocese Pastor, Priests, Business Managers, and employees.

External Contacts:

• Parishioners, diocese vendors, local, state, and federal agency representatives, and auditors.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

• This position works in a typical office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding needs of the Diocese, tight deadlines and moderate workloads.
• Ability to walk, bend, sit and reach lengthy periods of time.
• Position may require lifting and exposure to chemicals, dust, dirt, and bacteria.
• The position may require reporting to work before or after regular office hours.
• Tasks must be performed according to the time frame provided to avoid the spread of undesirable smells, bacteria, rodents, and/or insects.
• Ability to accept work interruptions while remaining focused on duties.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance.

Travel Requirements:

• Infrequent travel, by car, may be required to Diocese Parishes and/or schools.

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Experience in a similar role previously preferred

• Bilingual (Spanish/ English) is highly desirable, but not required.

FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt, PT-Occasional, 10-12 hours/wk, Preferably Monday or Tuesdays (after weekend Masses) and Fridays. (before weekend Masses).
