Job Summary:

The Assistant Financial Controller is the Controller's primary deputy for the accounting close, consolidation, technical accounting, and external reporting cycles. The role owns the mechanics of a complex multi-entity close, leads the accounting integration of newly acquired facilities, and is expected to grow into a leader who can represent the accounting function to auditors, lenders, and the sponsor. Legent is an active acquirer, so this role will regularly carry an integration alongside the recurring close. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable moving between a consolidation workbook, a credit agreement, and an ASC codification reference in the same afternoon.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Month-End Close and Consolidation
• Lead the monthly close calendar across ~50 entities in Sage Intacct, including facility-level closes, management company entities, and holding/series structures.
• Work with facility administrators and operating leaders on close timing, accrual inputs, and the post close timeline for acquired facilities.
• Own the consolidation process: intercompany eliminations, intercompany balance reconciliation, management fee and shared-service allocations, and NCI attribution of P&L and equity.
• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals prepared by staff and facility accountants.
• Maintain the chart of accounts, entity hierarchy, and dimension structure to support both GAAP reporting and lender/sponsor views.
• Lender and Sponsor Reporting
• Prepare the quarterly credit agreement compliance package: Consolidated EBITDA with addback schedules by prong, leverage and coverage ratios, and the officer's compliance certificate.
• Maintain the lender cash flow forecast and debt service schedules; reconcile forecast to actuals and explain variances.
• Support preparation of board and sponsor materials, including EBITDA bridges, same-store performance, and MD&A style commentary.
• Technical Accounting
• Prepare and maintain position papers and schedules on complex areas, including ASC 842 (lease classification, term determination, modification vs. separate lease, straight-line rent), ASC 810 (consolidation, NCI redemptions and buy-ins), ASC 805/350 (acquisition accounting, goodwill allocation, held-for-sale), ASC 606 (net patient revenue, contractual allowances, implicit price concessions), and ASC 470 (debt and equipment financing).
• Set the contractual allowance and bad debt estimates and reconcile net patient revenue to cash collections with the revenue cycle team.
• Account for physician partnership activity: unit issuances and redemptions, distributions, and guaranteed payments.
• Account for profits interest units (PIUs) under ASC 718: grant-date fair value (coordinating with valuation specialists on waterfall/option-pricing modesl), service-and performance-based vesting, forfeitures, modifications, and the related equity and expense entries; evaluate whether any award falls under ASC 710 or liability classification instead.
• Evaluate implant and equipment capitalization, lease vs. buy decisions, and intercompany asset transfers within the series structure. 
• Acquisitions and Integration
• Serve as the accounting lead on acquisitions from diligence through first consolidated close: review quality-of-earnings finding, validate target balance sheets, and assess accounting policy differences.
• Prepare the opening balance sheet and purchase price allocation under ASC 805, including working capital true-ups, identified intangibles, goodwill, and NCI measurement; coordinate with valuation specialists where required.
• Stand up acquired facilities in Sage Intacct: entity and series setup, chart-of-accounts mapping, opening balance load, intercompany and management fee arrangements, and inclusion in the consolidation.
• Convert acquired facilities to platform accounting policies and close calendar (revenue recognition, lease accounting, implant capitalization, accrual methodology) and document conversion adjustments.
• Build pro forma and run-rate EBITDA for acquired facilities in the form required by the credit agreement and support the related lender notifications and compliance certificate updates.
• Own the integration checklist and post-close timeline (typically the first 90-120 days), coordinating with operations, revenue cycle, payroll, IT and legal.
• External Audit and Tax Support
• Serve as day-to-day lead for the annual financial statement audit: PBC coordination, draft financial statements and footnotes, statement of cash flows, and statement of changes in equity.
• Coordinate with tax advisors on partnership allocations, K-1 support 752 debt allocations, and withholding on foreign partners.
• Controls, Systems, and Team
• Build and document internal controls that fit a sponsor-backed platform with lender reporting.
• Move recurring schedules in Intacct, Excel, and Power BI to formula-driven, auditable models.
• Supervise, develop, and review the work of senior and staff accountants; act as Controller in the Controller's absence.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA (or equivalent e.g., ACCA/CA) required.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a controllership or assistant controllership role.
• Healthcare provider experience3- ambulatory surgery centers, hospitals, or physician-owned facilities including familiarity with net revenue, payer mix, and case-mix metrics.
• Hands-on experience with multi-entity consolidation and non-controlling interest accounting in a partnership or LLC structure.
• Demonstrated technical US GAAP depth, particularly ASC 842, 810, 805,718 and 606; ability to research and document positions independently.
• Experience preparing lender compliance reporting under a credit agreement (EBITDA definitions, covenant calculations, compliance certificates).
• Direct experience with acquisition accounting and post-close integration-opening balance sheets, purchase price allocation, and onboarding acquired entities into an ERP and consolidation.
• Experience working directly with operating leaders, such as facility administrators and revenue cycle teams.
• Advanced Excel skills (structured consolidation models, reconciliations, variance analysis); strong working knowledge of a mid-market ERP.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in a private-equity-backed company with sponsor and lender reporting obligations.
• Physician joint venture experience.
• Public Accounting background (audit or transaction services) with a top-tier or large regional firm.
• Sage Intacct and Power BI experience.
• Exposure to partnership tax concepts (allocations, guaranteed payments, profits interests, foreign partner withholding).
