Service employees are compensated per the prevailing wage rates and fringe benefits that are set by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division's WDs 29 CFR Part 541 and 29 CFR 4.163(f).Job SummaryThe Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools. This worker operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency. The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling, and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines. (SCA 23430)Essential Functions: Manage maintenance activities and/or equipment operation at the local places of performance Develop maintenance procedures, ensure implementation, allocate workload, supervise contractor employees, and monitor equipment status Monitor and manage relationships with the customer Keep maintenance logs, report on daily activities, as well as Ensure health and safety policies adherenceAnalyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic toolsOperates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency Welds broken parts and structural membersMay direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipmentMay repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling, and cutting machines, and continuous mining machinesPerform other duties as assigned in association with established Management and Contract Compliance Plan, and workload requirements, etc.Adhere to PTi quality, safety, and environmental standardsWorking Conditions and Physical DemandsMay be required to attend the Government provided Section 608/609 certification training Must be available during operating hoursMay be required to be available up to 24 hours per day, 7 days per week during key events and increased OPTEMPOSubject to mandatory drug testing as required May be required to handle equipment/supplies weighing up to 50 pounds individually and occasionally items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistanceAble to exert moderate physical effort in the loading, unloading, and arranging of equipment/supplies as applicable to position.Ability to work inside and/or outside in dirty and dusty environments, and occasionally be exposed to hot, cold, damp, and drafty weather conditions while handling equipment/supplies.Able to perform work on hard or uneven surfaces.QualificationsSkills and Experience:Two years' experience inspecting and troubleshooting mechanical and electronic components on a wide variety of heavy-duty military vehicles using computerized diagnostic equipment, and repairing, cleaning, replacing defective parts of components and systemsFamiliar with Microsoft Office SuiteSkilled in planning, controlling, executing, multi-tasking and being responsible for the successful completion of work requirementsAbility to effectively read and write in English, comprehend written instructions, perform common mathematical tasks, and communicate effectivelyCertificate, License, Registration, etc.:Shall possess a certificate from a Vocational Technical School for vehicle or equipment mechanic, or have graduated from any Vehicle, Equipment, or Power Generation Mechanic Advanced Individual Training (AIT) e.g., 91 Series Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) or other DOD equivalent training.Valid driver's U.S. State issued Class A CDL US CitizenPossess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance applicable to the position and/or military Common Access Card (CAC) within 30 days if requiredCompletion of contractual and company mandated trainings applicable to positionEducationMinimum high school diploma or GEDPreferred QualificationsPrior MilitaryThis job description is meant to be a guide.
