Public Affairs plays a vital role in advancing the agency’s priorities and strengthening relationships with elected officials, government agencies, community leaders, and other key stakeholders. The team is responsible for developing and executing intergovernmental engagement strategies that promote the agency’s initiatives, facilitate coordination across government, and ensure the agency is responsive to the needs and priorities of its external partners. Through strategic outreach, relationship management, and stakeholder engagement, Public Affairs helps position the agency as a trusted partner and effective resource within city government. The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) seeks to hire a carpenter to work within the ceremonial unit. This unit falls under the Special Events unit. The DCAS ceremonial unit supports all Mayoral, agency, and city sponsored events throughout the five boroughs. Responsibilities of a carpenter working at DCAS include but may not be limited to: Installing, repairing, and replacing flooring, partitions, window frames and sashes, door frames and doors, and other related components of buildings and structures. Installing, repairing and replacing boardwalks, fences and screens. Building and repairing toolboxes, movable and fixed sashes, doors and wooden office furniture, playground, park, school equipment, and various types of ladders. Building and rebuilding truck cabs. Is familiar with, uses, and operates both hand and powered woodworking equipment. Works from plans and sketches. Keeps job and other records. Can work from plans and sketches. May supervise assigned personnel. Performs laboring work requiring physical strength. Moves, lifts, and carries items of various weights and sizes. Some of the physical activities performed by Carpenters and environmental conditions experiences are: Lifting and carrying building materials weighing up to approximately 80 pounds. Climbing and descending ladders and scaffolds. Working in hot areas in boiler rooms; working in confined spaces. Standing upright for extended periods of time. Working in noisy and dusty areas. Using electric-powered shop equipment and power drives electrical hand tools and machinery. Ability to wear OSHA approved dust masks, safety goggles, work boots and work gloves. Responsibilities of working within the ceremonial unit include but may not be limited to: Building stages, hanging signage, putting up tents, setting up pipe & drape, and other event-related duties upon request. Building frames for signage, install shelving, and building woodwork pieces upon request. Requires a flexible schedule to support the needs of the Mayor and City agencies. Required to operate motor vehicles in connection with the performance of duties. Minimum Qualifications Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Carpenter acquired within the last 10 years; or Three years of experience as described in "1" above, plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational school training. Preferred Skills Possession of a Motor Vehicle license valid in the State of New York is required. Position may require overtime (early mornings, nights, and weekends). Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) valid in the State of New York is required. 55a Program This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
