Role SummaryWe are looking for an experienced API Technical Lead with more than 10 years of experience to own the design, governance, and delivery of enterprise APIs that power internal platforms, client integrations, and partner ecosystems. This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with architecture, standards, and cross‑team influence to ensure APIs are scalable, secure, and developer‑friendly.Key ResponsibilitiesAPI Architecture & DesignOwn the API strategy and architecture (REST/gRPC/event‑driven as appropriate)Define and enforce API standards (naming, versioning, error handling, pagination)Design APIs for scalability, performance, and backward compatibilityDrive API‑first and contract‑driven development (OpenAPI/Swagger, schemas)Lead API lifecycle management: design build version deprecateEngineering LeadershipProvide hands‑on technical leadership for API development teamsReview designs and code to ensure quality, consistency, and best practicesLead complex API initiatives and cross‑service integrationsMentor engineers and raise the overall API engineering barAct as the primary technical escalation point for API‑related issuesSecurity, Reliability & GovernanceEnsure APIs meet enterprise security standards (authN/authZ, rate limiting, input validation)Integrate APIs with OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, mTLS, and centralized auth servicesDefine and implement API governance, approvals, and change managementEnsure observability: logging, metrics, tracing, and SLAsDrive resiliency: throttling, circuit breakers, retries, and graceful degradationPlatform & Ecosystem EnablementBuild and maintain API gateways, developer portals, and shared libraries/SDKsEnable self‑service onboarding for internal and external consumersPartner with product, security, SRE, and platform teamsSupport internal, client, and partner integrations at scaleDelivery & OperationsIntegrate APIs with CI/CD pipelines and automated testingEnsure production readiness, on‑call support, and incident responseDrive API modernization and legacy integration cleanupTrack adoption, performance, and reliability metricsRequired Skills & ExperienceTechnicalStrong experience designing and delivering enterprise APIsExpertise in REST APIs; experience with gRPC and event‑driven APIs a plusProficiency in Java, C#, or similar backend technologiesStrong experience with API gateways and service mesh conceptsDeep understanding of distributed systems and microservicesPlatform & DevOpsExperience with Kubernetes, containers, and cloud platformsCI/CD automation and Git‑based workflowsObservability tools (metrics, tracing, logging)Familiarity with API testing, mocking, and contract validationSecurity & ComplianceOAuth2, OIDC, JWT, RBAC, secrets managementRate limiting, abuse prevention, and data protectionAudit logging and compliance‑ready API designNice to HaveExperience supporting external client or partner APIsKnowledge of financial services or regulated environmentsExposure to API monetization, throttling tiers, or usage analyticsExperience driving API platform or integration strategySalary Range: $120,000 - $202,500 AnnualThe range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified.
