Orthopedic Physician Assistant

Pay Range: $120,000 USD to $145,000 USD. This is the budgeted amount for the position; final offers are based on skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related factors. Description Position Summary / Scope of Responsibility The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics LLC (CAO) is one of the nation’s largest Orthopaedics practices, owned and operated by physicians, with over 60 locations across Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. This Physician Assistant (PA‑C) will provide patient care in a Walk‑In setting treating acute and chronic orthopedic conditions. Patient care will be offered according to state guidelines under the direction of the supervising physician. In coordination with the supervising physician, the PA will develop a comprehensive plan of care and work with the care team to ensure continuity and quality care. Primary Responsibilities The incumbent may be asked to perform job‑related tasks other than those specifically stated in this description. The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner consistent with the Mission, Core Values, and Operating Principles of CAO. Provide health care services to patients under the direction and responsibility of the assigned physician. Examine patients, perform comprehensive physical examinations, and compile medical data, including history and results of physical examinations. Administer or order diagnostic tests (such as X‑ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests) and interpret results. Consult with the physician when warranted to assess patient condition and treatment. Perform therapeutic procedures, including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management. Develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, and assist in continuity of care. Instruct and counsel patients on compliance with therapy, growth and development, family planning, emotional issues, and health maintenance. Assist in the operating room with duties designated by credentials and facility policies at surgery centers or hospitals. Perform preoperative activities per facility policy. Discuss anesthetic plans with surgeons. Document orders and considerations specified by surgeons and carried out by physicians. Provide support to medical and office staff. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and CAO guidelines, policies, and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program. BLS Certification. Preferred: 2 years of experience. Maintain CEUs in pertinent clinical practice per licensure requirements. Experience in patient care, primarily in Orthopedic or Primary Care settings. Proficiency working with computers and electronic medical records. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships in a decentralized organization. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. Strong oral and written communication skills with self‑discipline and patience. Knowledge of EMR systems. Proficiency in Windows‑based office technologies (Word, Excel). Ability to work independently. Professional presentation. Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English. Physical Demands Sitting for long periods and lifting up to 50 pounds. Using appropriate body mechanics for transfers and patient assistance. Frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting. Regular heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling. Adequate hearing for in‑person and telephone duties. Hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity for keyboard, equipment, fax, scanner, photocopier, and telephone use. Clear patient communication in person and over the telephone.
