Job Description

Our client is an employee-owned general contractor based in downtown Chicago. They have built commercial and high-end residential projects for more than 25 years, and people stay: the typical employee has been there about 8 years.

This is a planned succession. Their longtime finance leader is getting ready to retire, and they want a hands-on Controller to step in, learn the business, and run all of accounting and finance. You will work side by side with the owners and the project teams.

What you'll own

\n

\n
• Lead and grow the accounting team
\n
• Month-end close, financial reporting, budgets, and forecasts
\n
• Cash flow, AP, AR, payroll (including union), and fixed assets
\n
• Job costing, WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and project billing
\n
• Work with project teams on budgets, profit, and cash needs
\n
• Bank, surety, and insurance relationships
\n
• Audit and tax work with outside firms
\n
• Better controls, systems, and processes
\n

What you bring

\n

\n
• 8+ years in accounting and finance, with time leading a team
\n
• Construction accounting, ideally at a general contractor
\n
• Hands-on job costing and WIP
\n
• Comfort working with owners and project leaders
\n
• Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
\n

\n

Nice to have

\n

\n
• CMiC or a similar construction ERP
\n
• ESOP experience
\n
• CPA, CMA, or MBA (CPA is not required)
\n
• Union payroll
\n

\n

Details

\n

\n
• 5 days onsite in a modern downtown office (West Loop area)
\n
• $150,000 to $180,000 base, plus bonus
\n
• Employee stock ownership (ESOP), 401(k) with company contribution, medical, dental, vision, life, LTD, and PTO
\n
