City of DuPont Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic (Applicant must be a current Certified Paramedic)
This recruitment is to establish a hiring list for anticipated vacancies for Lateral Firefighter Paramedics. The Firefighter Paramedic is a full-time, non-exempt position. The hourly rate range for this position is $32.16 to $42.89, plus excellent benefits. Note: the annual pay rate listed above is based on an annual work schedule of 2608 hours, as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of DuPont and the DuPont Professional Firefighters (IAFF Local 3829).

The Fire Department works a 48/96-hour shift schedule (including events, call back, deployments, etc.), operating out of one centrally located fire station and providing emergency and non-emergency response to fire, EMS, rescue, hazardous materials, wildland incidents, citizen assists and many other types of calls. The department currently runs over 1000 calls per year, of which is about 70% medical.
The Firefighter's work includes responding to and dealing with emergency situations, natural conditions that pose a threat to life and property, and incidents of service to the citizens. Employees in this position are responsible for the protection of life and property through firefighting activities, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, emergency medical services, fire inspections activities, public education, and other like duties. This position performs a full range of emergency work under adverse and strenuous physical conditions. Firefighters have a high risk of exposure to hazardous conditions, toxic chemicals and infectious diseases encountered during firefighting or emergency medical incidents.
The Firefighter is also evaluated for their ability to work as part of a team in the effective and timely achievement of department goals and objectives. Such evaluation will be based on their level of experience and rank relative to their status; probationary, third, second, and first class.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to:
- Carry a self-contained breathing apparatus weighing approximately 35 pounds on their back and support 100 pounds of hose on their shoulder while walking to a fire.
- Crawl on their hands and knees.
- Climb up and down ladders and stairs with equipment or hose lines.
- Pull heavy objects such as a person from a hazardous condition.
- Work in extreme temperatures wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Work in a confined space such as an attic or crawl space of a structure.
- Move, lift, and otherwise contact and assist patient(s) in the performance of their duties.
- Lift a loaded stretcher into an ambulance.
- Grip ropes and tools with gloved hands.
- Tie knots.
- Use equipment to pull down ceiling or walls requiring his/her arms to be above his/her head.
- Cut or chop holes in roofs, walls, and floors using an ax.
- Lift a ladder weighing 75 pounds off of a truck or off the ground safely.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. Fire and smoke condition are occasionally very intense. The employee may work near mechanical hazards and in high places. There may be exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical hazards, confined spaces, biologic or radiation hazards or explosives. The employee may also be required to function in situations where physical harm from criminals or other threats is present. These are some, but not all of the conditions that a firefighter may be required to work in or around.
