Location: Wilmington, North Carolina

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Night shift, 36 hours per week, 13-26 week assignment available. Patient ratio averages 1:6 based on acuity. Weekend requirement: 4 shifts per 4-week period (flexible scheduling). Floating required at unit discretion.

Highlights:

• Comprehensive cardiac care unit managing post-surgical patients including CABG, valve replacements, TAVR, and vascular procedures
• Advanced telemetry experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management, cardiac drip titration, and sheath removal
• Epic charting system with 24-hour orientation provided
• 43-room unit with census of approximately 41 patients and full interdisciplinary support including rapid response teams
• Experience with specialized equipment including arterial lines, femoral sheaths, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires
• Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of cardiac floor experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required unless candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start date
• NC state license or Compact license (pending acceptable for submission)
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)
• Core skills: Cardiac telemetry, PCU/step-down experience, sheath removal, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, post-MI care, pre/post cardiac cath management, cardiac drip management and titration, chest tube management, BiPAP/CPAP, non-invasive airway management
• Proficiency with Pyxis medication system, Epic documentation, and SBAR communication

Preferred Qualifications:

• Arterial line management experience
• Wound care and wound VAC experience
• Previous charge nurse experience

Patient Population:

• Adult and geriatric patients with cardiac diagnoses including atrial fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, peripheral vascular disease, and carotid stenosis
• Post-operative cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery patients
• Post-catheterization, cardioversion, electrophysiology procedures, and pacemaker placements
