Role Description

The Principal Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Sugar Land, TX, responsible for leading and overseeing engineering projects in construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, and environmental engineering. This role includes managing project execution from proposal through delivery, providing technical leadership and quality review of engineering analyses, reports, and recommendations, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, TxDOT standards, and client requirements. The Principal Engineer will supervise and mentor project engineers and technicians, coordinate field and laboratory testing programs, and support troubleshooting of complex geotechnical and materials issues. Day-to-day activities involve client communication, scope development, budget and schedule management, and participation in business development efforts, including support for public-sector and transportation-related pursuits.

Qualifications

• Strong technical expertise in construction materials testing and geotechnical engineering, including foundation analyses, soil exploration, and geotechnical testing.
• Experience with environmental engineering assessments, including hazardous materials initial site evaluations and related regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams, supervise field and laboratory personnel, and manage complex projects for public and private clients.
• Proficiency in preparing and reviewing technical reports, engineering calculations, specifications, and documentation for transportation and building foundation studies.
• Familiarity with TxDOT work categories, standards, and procedures, particularly related to materials production, placement, and foundation design.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, agencies, and internal stakeholders.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas, or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Proven track record of on-site project oversight, safety-focused leadership, and commitment to quality and client satisfaction.
• Experience working with municipalities, transportation agencies, or similar public-sector entities is highly beneficial.
