The board-certified Orthopaedic Physician specializes in treating and diagnosing illnesses and injuries to the musculoskeletal system. The Orthopaedic Physician works to diagnose and treat injuries or illnesses to the musculoskeletal system. Successful physicians should be attentive and meticulous with good hand dexterity. Possessing excellent interpersonal and communication skills, showing compassion and empathy for patients. Primary Responsibilities The incumbent may be asked to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this description. The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the Mission, Core Values and Operating Principles of CAO. Maintains historical patient records by documenting symptoms, medications, treatment events and writing summaries. Uses specialized equipment, including blood tests to determine the extent of a fracture, illness, or injury. Prescribes course of treatment for patients with injuries, disorders, or malformations and performs required surgery. Would be responsible for a Trauma call rotation Responsible for supervising mid-level providers Conducts medical research on new injuries or diseases and conducts, supervises, and participates in medical education and training of other medical personnel. Conducts and supervises direct patient care, including non-surgical treatment options. Plans and executes disease prevention and health promotion programs. Maintains CME units based on the requirement of the specifying Board. Uses excellent communication skills to consult and educate patients, their families, and other medical professionals regarding treatments, medications, and surgical procedures. Offers preoperative, intra-operative, and postoperative care, including the administration of medication and anesthesia. Represents the practice and CAO at professional conferences and in joint medical committees. Reviews patient progress and reports relevant information to patients, other physicians, and medical personnel. Ensures consistent compliance with all regulatory and CAO guidelines, policies, and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education + Experience Licensed and board-certified MD in assigned state(s). 4+ years’ internship and residency training, specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. BLS Certification required. Must maintain CEU's in pertinent clinical practice according to licensure requirements. Experience and proficiency working with computers, medical coding, and electronic medical records Strong Interpersonal Skills - Ability to develop relationships and collaborate in a decentralized organization. Leadership Skills – Ability to effectively manage and motivate staff. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment with a proven track record of results. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well both with children and the elderly. Empathy and patience when dealing with serious diseases. Strong oral and written communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience. Demonstrated knowledge of EMR systems. Required to be proficient in Windows based office technologies (e.g., Word, Excel). Able to work independently. Exudes professionalism in presentation. Must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in the English language. Physical Demands Must be able to sit for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics when making necessary transfers and helping patients with exercises. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting. Some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a standard work shift. Adequate hearing to perform duties in person and over telephone. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, medical equipment, fax machine, scanner, photocopier, and telephone. Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading materials from printed sources and computer screens. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
